Something amazing happened to me yesterday that I want to share. I was at work like any other day, with a schedule of people with appointments to see me. One person in particular, I did not want to see, for a host of reasons. He arrived on time and sat before me, I noticed he sat a little uncomfortably but thats none of my business, until he said, I'm sorry if I appear uneasy, but I am battling colon cancer. My heart sank, and I said "been there done that." We had an amazing meeting in which we shared our stories, and he asked so many questions, that he was afraid to ask his cancer care team. He called me this morning to say thank-you again, and to ask if maybe we could go to lunch some time. He was on his way to radiation.
I feel so blessed to have brought some hope and information to this man, I could see the relief on his face as I talked about what was ahead for him. I got as much out of it as he did. And the business end of our meeting, I think we resolved the issue, but because of chemobrain, I can't remember. So to all off you survivors, look out for your fellow cancer worriors, and you never know what a little conversation about your battle can do for them! Best to everyone!

hey chemo2,
I feel like saying, "Congratulations!" But you were just being human, right? But yet, I think, not being a business person myself, that working in a business setting sometimes gets in the way of us acting humanly with one another.
But, "Congratulations!" is in order because you were brave enough to open up to him and tell him your story. Feels good, doesn't it, to help someone along a little in what you know is only the beginning of what can be a very long, and sometimes lonely, path.

Take care,
Linda

I recently got my "all clear" from the doctor regarding my cancer. Since I did chemo, I lost some of my hair and wear scarves on my head. I cannot tell you the number of people who have come up to me and asked if I had cancer, and then went on to tell me they too had faced their own battle with it. It is like you belong to a new "club" where all of the members have had or have cancer. You just never know when you will come across someone who has been through something or is going through something similar to what you have been through.
I am so happy that you were able to share with this man your experience and help him along his journey. That is what it is all about. What good are the experiences we have had if we don't share them with others going through the same dark places we have been? Cancer is a scary thing, and it is nice to talk to someone who has been where you are going and can tell you about their experience. Great job Chemo2!

KUDOS TO YOU!!! You may have saved someone's mental health. I'm so glad you were able to open up to someone who was scared. God bless you.

Unlike other cancers, you can't always tell that someone is battling colon cancer, we don't lose our hair, we are able for the most part continue with our daily lives as this man was doing. Colon cancer is not always an easy subject to discuss for obvious reasons. I think that sometimes even cc patients are embarassed to ask questions even of their doctors! Not me, I'll tell you all the details, it can't be any more embarrassing than the tests they conduct on you. So anyone out there battling colon cancer who has a question, I am your man! I will tell you from a-z. Thanks for the encouragement guys I appreciate it!

He was a very lucky man. Your meeting & resolution was not a chance. The peace you have now was not a chance. You are making your life good.

Truly inspiring! Feels great to give someone hope.
Maria
