Feels like there's "Something" stuck in the chest!

0 Recommendations

My mum who's 68 was diagnosed with Limited SCLC in May'08. She's been through 3 rounds of Chemo - Cisplatin and Etoposide (with 3 more rounds to go) and 3 sessions of radiotherapy (which started this week and 27 more sessions to go).

She's been complaining since yesterday morning that it feels like there's "something" stuck in her chest! She keeps saying that it may be due to indigestion and refuses to eat!

Did anyone experience anything similar? I'm at a lost, is there something i can do to help relieve the discomfort?

Make sure the doctor knows about her chest, Keep bring it up until they give you an explanation. I had 34 radiotherapy sessions, 36 is the norm, so your mum is lucky at 30. But never let a side effect go with out telling someone on the medical staff immediatley. Her immune system is so compromised that it could be nothing or it could be important so get thier attention.Good luck to both of you.

My mum mentioned it to the radiologist this morning but was told it's normal. It's really frustrating getting the "it's normal" response from the medical team like as if you have to learn to live with it! This has been so since her first treatment. Thank God for this site and friends here or my mum and I would have been clueless what to expect not to mention how to cope with the treatment.

Mum is weak and has not been eating for the past 2 days because of this and you are right about her immune system being weak at this time. I'll make sure we get some real attention tomorrow when I make the trip with her for her radiotherapy session.

hi , we are currently going through this with my mom and its from the radiation .she just had a cat scan and they didnt find anything ,have her try icecream ,milkshakes ,italian ice ,my mom makes her own she gets kool-aid and puts it in the freezer.soft foods jello ,pudding, applesauce, and if she stops drinking get her ice chips to suck on.well i hope she starts eating for you ,please tell her to eat even if its just a little bit her and there,my mom stopped eating and drinking and shes been in the hospital since last thursday ,its not the only reason she ended up there but some of the reason .i will pray for her ,stay strong and take care . lorie

You could also try "ensure" over ice. It's really not bad.
