Chemo Brain Support Group

Hands for Hope Chemo Brain Support Group was founded June, 2008 in Clearwater, Florida in order to provide cancer patients/survivors and caregivers with peer support, educational material and raising community awareness. The support group is facilitated by an advanced practice registered nurse, who is a lung cancer survivor and challenged by chemo brain.

my husband has chemo brain...sclc and 6 months of chemo plus a round of radation to the brain to prevent the spread of the cancer has left him with the challenge of chemo brain...now the cancer is back and more chemo and each day i see the confussion in his eyes and the confidence he had is not gone. he dosen't want to talk to other because he has a hard time to carry on a conversaion. he is very quit now and i feel sad for him. for me it's a worry because the cancer he has like to spread to the brain, somethime i don't know if it's the cancer or the chemo causing his problems. anyone else....

Thank you for sharing your and your husband's experience. I can tell you to go to www.cancercare.net and look for chemo brain materials. The Lance Armstrong Foundation funded the development of 4 educational materials focused on varying aspects of chemo brain.
You said your husband is back on chemo again. Is there anyone at the cancer center that deals with survivorship issues? Maybe a social worker, advanced nurse practioner or chemo nurse. I found the best thing is to keep asking questions. Please take the time to look up that educational material, then take it to your husband's oncologist. Keep in touch. I hope this discussion will grow and we can share our experience and hope.
