I was diagnosed with Ovarican Cancer at 36 and had a recurrance in May 2008. I had avastin and taxol because I became allergic to carbo....just wondering if anyone has done avastin.

Also I did the genetic testing BRAC1 BRAC2 and it was positive. Has anyone done this and it came back positive? If so what did you do with the information?

Hi, I had ovarian cancer at the age of 38 also.
Mine recurried as well. I was on taxol and carbo
and became allergic too. I was put on taxater?
and cisplatin. My grandmother and an aunt had
breast cancer. I have not had the testing.
I live in P.C.B. your picture looks like it was taken
here. I hope and pray things will look up for you.
I finished last chemo Jan, 6. Test came back
no disease found.

Yes I live in Pensacola also and use to live on pensacola beach. Is Dr. Decesare your doctor? I would love to do lunch and hear more about your story. How long was your cancer in remission before it came back? If you want you can call me my work is 432-7077 and my cell is 393-1542. Hope to hear from you soon.

Dear BRAC1andBRAC2:
I began in 2007 with ovc stage 3, had the
major surgery, hysterectomy, lymph nodes removed, part of stomach, appendix and I do not remember what else. Had a port put in two places, still have the
tope one. Did taxol and caqrboplatin until March
of 2008, been in remission since then until now, I am
starting chemo it seems the purple elephant with
pink pokadots has attacked me again, that is my name for the cancer. I am contemplating avistan??? What
kind of affects did it have on your system? If you would not mind sharing with me, I would appreciate
it. Also would like to call you a friend.
Sincerely
Hawkeye

Hi. I was dx Stage IIIC in 01/07 and was tested for BRCA and tested positive for both 1 & 2. I understand it is very rare to have both. I had the "big" surgery in 02/07 and started chemo the following week. I had taxol and carbo IV for 7 treatments and then 2 IP cisplatin/taxol. My last chemo was 09/07. A recurrence has just been confirmed this month and I am having a port put in tomorrow (I only had the IP port the 1st time). I will probably start chemo Thursday. If I get approved, I will do a Phase III trial with Carbo/Gemzar/Avastin. Avastin is the trial so I may or may not get it.

What my doctor said about the BRCA is that I WILL get breast cancer and need to have the prophlactic (spelling) double masectomy. I was going to try and do this summer but now I can't since I'll be doing chemo.

Hope all turns out well with you!

JoAnne

Avastin didn't have near the side effects as carbo and taxol. My doctor said just Friday that he feels I could be in remission for awhile due to Avastin. I think it would be a good call. How high is your CA125? How long were you in remission? I will be praying for you.

Bless your heart know I will be praying for you too. Its funny your doctor said you would need to have the mystecomy because my doctor just said Friday that I am to young to be doing that and I was positive but thinks I should think about it later. So how many months were you in remission? My doc really thinks avastin is the answer so I hope you will try it. How high is your CA125 how high was it the first time? How did they find it at first? If you ever need to talk to someone please know you can call me at 850-393-1542 cell and my home is 850-937-9664. God Bless and Keep the Faith!

Hi not same cancer. I have brain level 4. BUT my second group of meds included Avastin . I seem to be doing fine after 5 treatments. I have heard of it being affective in a few cancers. However it is NOT actually chemo. It works with various chemos. I am taking CPT11 with it. I have also heard that sometimes after a year or so it loses affectiveness in peeps. BUT right now I am very happy with it.

My CA 125 was 42 last month. The previous month it was 27. I know it's not that high but I'm glad that my doctor is treating right away. I asked him about whether we should wait until it was bigger and CA 125 higher but he said his philosophy is to treat fast and get it out of there. He said sometimes quality of life is an issue with older people or those who don't tolerate the chemo well but thinks I should do fine. I hope it does give us a LONG remission. My last treatment was Sept. 07 so I had a 17 month break which I know I should be grateful for but it still seemed like it came back too quickly. The masectomy issue was first brought up by another oncologist who was handling my chemo (Same oncology group, different location that was more convenient for me). But my gyn. oncologist did seem to think that I should wait and gave me Arimidex in the meantime (like Tamoxifen). I'm praying that they come up with something between now and the time I have to make that decision. I already feel like Frankenstein with all the scars and now the port!

Thank you for sharing!
