Hi my name is Beverley i dont have cancer but my mother in law who is 61 was diagnosed with breast cancer in April 08 which was discovered whilst having a routine mamogramme, she had the lump removed which was very small in May and 3 full weeks of radiotherapy, she then had a scan which confirmed everything was ok.

In October she was having stomach pain, bloating and burning on passing water, she went to the GP who gave her antibiotics but didnt work, she went back and was examined by her gp who felt a lump in her abdomen, to cut a long story short after many tests and scans she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer! she was operated on in November as they thought it was in the bowel but when they opened her up it was in the ovaries.

As time went on she started her first lot of chemo in December but was feeling very nausea so we put it down to the chemo she then started being sick all the time and was unable to empty her bowels. She went to clinic week and told them she hadnt eaten much and was being sick all the time so the admitted her back to hospital on 23rd December where they put a tube down her throat to empty the bowel and see if that would help, it didnt they had to give her a coloscopy bag yesterday and it looks like she is at stage 111 of the cancer, we are very worried as a family and would like to hear of anyone who has or is going through the same problem as my mother in law? she is still in hospital and is very frightened! thank you for your support

first of all--"all my support and prayers are with you and family"

if i'm understanding correctly it sounds like your Mother in law has 'colon cancer.?' it could very well be the original tumor the whole time was in the colon and maybe the ovarian and breast cancers were metastasis of this?

i was diagnosed with colon cancer 11-07 stage 4

this metastasized to my abdomen, liver and esophagus. i also had to have a colostomy.
chemotherapy regimen was---IV-- steroid **i don't remember the name of this** followed by 'leukovorin' then simultaneously 'fluorouracil' and 'oxaliplatin.' once this treatment complete i would then follow up in the afternoon with 'fluorouracil' that was administered through a pump for 3 days. this treatment repeated itself every two weeks.
side effects range from 'hair loss, nausea, diarrhea, fatigue, loss of appetite, reduction in red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets----etc.....
the only side effects i experienced that affected treatment were a drop in platelets. this would require treatment to be postponed and the 3 times in which this happened i resumed treatment the following week.
i'm proud to say/write i'm cancer free as of 11-08.
when initially diagnosed the prognosis was very dim. i was actually told to get my affairs in order that without treatment i had maybe 30 days and if could tolerate treatment 6 months. this was told to me by the first set of doctors which prompted me to look elsewhere for treatment and i ended up at Mayo Clinic.
if you have any questions or just need someone to write to i'm always here for you. i tried to write the least amount as possible here so as not to take up too much of your time and not entirely sure this is the advice your looking for?
i do and have quite extensive experience regarding colon cancer and even dealing with the colostomy, so if this is what your looking for feel free to ask me anything.
