Yes, I would like to talk to someone who experience or had or does have this cancer.

SASSYCB,
I am new to this site as of today. I had a malignant melanoma in my esophagus. I had an extended Ivor-Lewis operation in June 2009. I had a leak so they had to do another surgery (a deltopectoral flap ) in July. Do you have any tips on getting back to what is considered noramal for those of us that have had this operation . I still have a feeding tube as I am only able to eat liquid diet and a very small amount of soft food. I only eat maybe twice a day and then my tube feedings at night. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Caddiegrl

Hi Sassy,
My husband has finished chemo and radia.and is scheduled for a resection surgery on Dec. 21, is there anything that you can tell me about the recovery?
Thank you, Nan

Hi Caddie girl,
It has been a while since your surgery. My husband is scheduled for a resection surgery for stage 3 esophageal cancer in Dec. Is there any advice that you can give me for his care?
I hope that you are doing well and progressing daily.
My best, Nan

Hello Nan,
I would say to have lots of patience and encouragement. We are all different with our tolerance for pain and suffering, how we deal with a feeding tube, ect. He will be up and walking after the first or second day of surgery, he won't feel ike it ( kinda feels like a mac truck hit ya) but he will be so much better off. I started pulmonary and physical therapy within a week right there in the hospital, that helped alot to get a little body strength back. Massage on my back, feet and legs helped me alot, Laying in that hospital bed takes it's toll. I think in most cases with resection, people only have to spend up to two weeks in hospital and then progress well from there, eating small amounts of food that they can tolerate. You may have to puree some of the food at first. You may want to take short walks with him to help build up his endurance. It may take a couple of months but I am sure he will be back to his pre surgery self. Sorry this is so long, Hope it helps. Caddiegrl
