Rarely discussed: medical marijuana

I almost never see marijuana discussed here. I know chemo and radiation are both very common treatments, and it's commonly known that marijuana can help alleviate certain unpleasant side effects from these. Has anyone else here discussed this with their doctors about using it? Or perhaps already using or considering it? What are your state's laws? It was legalized by an overwhelming majority vote, in a referendum here in Maine in 1999, for use by those with certain medical conditions. I was taking dronabinol for close to a year before I asked my primary care physician if he thought that I could benefit from using marijuana. His opinion was that there was a good chance it could, and he wrote me the necessary letter to cover me legally. In my opinion it is much more effective than dronabinol (marinol) for alleviating my symptoms. I use it twice a day, in the morning and evening, before my meals. If I were not able to use it legally I never would have even considered it. My life is complicated enough without adding legal problems. Thoughts or opinions on this are welcomed and appreciated.
