Status on Ind. Pouch Discussion

I earlier posted a discussion on Indiana Pouch patients to chime in. I want to give you my status my situation.

I had a AMS 800 urinary implant put in around August 2, 2009. It turns out the surgeon nicked my urethea and caused a leak. In short he had to take out first the "cuff" where he nicked me. Then I developed an infection and had to take out the whole implant.

As time went on, the leak area developed a fistula which if you google it, is like a secoundary (in my case) urethea developed from my leak out to a surgical scar below my genitals (where they had operated on my to put in the implant). So I had urine coming out there as well.
He put in a Foley cath (which in my case since I am incontinent) leaks outside the cath line anyway when I walk around or I plug up with mucas and therefore hits the leak area and the fistula just did not heal. The Foley cath was to dry out the fistula by keeping the fluids from going down there.

After time we had to address (so we thought) the issue of the fistula. My Uro thought I either needed a different system, so we talked about the IP or the externa pouch system and so on. He told me the fistula would get worse so we had to operate to stop it or it would just get worse. He had never done such a procedure and wanted me to see another doctor.

And I asked for a referral to a doctor he felt had more experiance and he sent me to Methodist Hospital to see Dr Timothy Boone, He is a professor of Urology at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston next to MD Anderson.

He told me that surgery is not the first option and we are just going to wait it out. He had been there and done that. I knew he was the Man!! My wife and I were relieved and feel he knew what he was doing and I did not want surgery again so soon.

He also told me He was the man who has put in over 500 AMS 800 implants and that I may still get one put in.. where the other Uro said that may not be possible.. Hope still is there!!

Sure enough, I can tell in this short period of time I feel the fistual is not putting out the amount of urine as before if any at all..

I just want to thank you all who put in all the work and answered my discussion.. You gave me hope, so much so I was disappointed when I was told that I could not have it.. you did your job, but God had another plan in mind..

I will update you in my status later

Neo
