Radiation Burns

0 Recommendations

I need some help. I've had bladder removal, metastasized to bone (radiation treatments w/ little problem), and now moved to vaginal (plus) area. The treatment was brachytherapy (radiation via tubes and needles into the affected area for, in my case, 48 hours). I have severe radiation burns and irritation in the affected area and have tried all solutions presented by all the doctors involved. If anyone can suggest anything I haven't tried I'll appreciate it. I've used Aquaphor, Desitin, yogurt, Nupercainal and cornstarch. My treatment was 2 weeks ago. Thanks to anyone who can help me.

Pain Burns

I'm sorry that you are going thru this. I'm also sorry that I can't offer any help and but I'm sure someone will jump in with some info. I do want to wish you all the best.
Keith

karbur, I'm sorry, I have no theraputic help for you, not having had radiation treatments. I am not familiar with this treatment either and the resulting pain you have. I hope your doctors and oncologists can offer their help in relief for your pain. Perhaps the nurses in the office could give you the benefit of their experience. Surely, they have seen this type of need.
If there are any here who have experienced this, I'm sure they will let you know what they used to ease the pain.
Are you finished with the treatments?
Karego

Hi karbur, I can't remember the name of it but my radiation therapists gave me creams to put on that at the time. I had 12 weeks of daily radiation last year and towards the end they really started ramping up the juice and I had a really nasty burn. My whole front groin region was like leather, sunburn to the tenth power. I'll look around and see if I still have any of that here so I can give you a name.
All my best, Jon

ask about two things: 1, a referral to an enterostomal therapist who can treat the skin

2. ask for an rx for silvadene which is an ointment for burns, check with the radiation folks first but they should be more aggressive in helping you with the burns.

and I would be asking why the burns occured since most doses are now computed and burns are rare

Nancy

Keith1 and Karego, Thanks to both of you for the encouraging words and the "chin-Up, kid, attitude! I needed both, believe me.

I had 27 "outside" treatments ending July 11. I also hade chemo once a week during this time. (The small pltces of burns were jusy beginninb to heal,) Aug. 10th went to Cleveland University Hosp. for 3 days of "imside" therapy.

Will start chemo once a week and outside radiaton five times a week shortly.

Thanks again, Me
