Quick Ben Update

Ben saw the Oncology nurse practitioner today. She was very pleased with how well he is doing after his first MVAC infusion. His blood tests look really good, although she said they will change over the next few days. He does have some redness in his mouth and coating on tongue, which has to be watched as mucositus is very common whith chemo, and can be very painful if ulcers start to form. Lot of mouth rinsing, and a prescription I have to go pick up shortly. He's been more tired yesterday and today, but that was expected.

All in all, he is doing well, which helps us to be positive and...

good news, !

ask the doctor to give you a scrip for "magic mouthwash"....
that will help the the mouth sores....

Daveyo, They already gave him a prescription mouthwash (Stanford Mouthwash). It's a special formula they use and have had good results. The active ingredients are: Chlorpheniramine Maleate + Hydrocortisone + Nystatin + Tetracycline. Is this similar to the "magic mouthwash"???

Hope you are doing well, and freddy too!

Cathy

Glad to hear Ben is doing so well! The mouth sores are surely annoying and painful, but a small price to pay under the circumstances.

Cathy,

Tell Ben how happy we all are that he is doing so well with the chemo so far. Jump all over the mouth wash, etc. Yahoo...soooo glad all is going well.

Lynda

Sending mouth wash,, helps to have extra around....
I am right here being hopeful too........

Ginger

Sending positive prayers your way.. Hopefully Ben will continue to do well.

Hi Cathy,

So glad to hear the news that Ben is doing so well. With Ed it was the 7th or 8th day that was the nadir, the day their white counts are at their lowest. When does he get his second round?

Love,

Candon

Today was day 5. He gets the second round on Monday, Nov 2nd, but they will check his counts the Friday before. Hopefully he won't get delayed like he did on his first chemo regimen. How is Ed doing?

Hugs,
Cathy

Super news Cathy, good luck to you both

NancyN

Ed is doing great and doesn't even feel like he has cancer right now. He gets his final treatment and will be finished with round 2. It is taking longer with Ed but his oncologist said that not many people can take the full dose without having to change something. Did Ben receive his whole round 1 in one day? We just sold our house a week ago and the couple wants to close next friday so we have been scrambling to pack and get everything ready. Ed is very upbeat and can't wait to move. I won't let him do much but it is a great distraction for him. Next friday Ed has his cat scan but we have to wait until next week to find out anything when we see his oncologist the next tuesday. Keep us posted about you and Ben and we have our fingers crossed that it works well for him .

Love,

Candon

Cathy

so glad to hear the good report on Ben. Daveyo is right. Magic Mouthwash. Ask the pharm if it is the same as the "stanford" brand. No time to dilly dally if it is the onset of thrush.

And it is so good to hear that Ed is up feeling cancer free this week. House selling would be a great distraction, great news and a lot to do. Busy is good.

Wishing you all good thoughts and continued prayers

Nancy

Nancy: I don't think the mouthwashes are the same, but they said the Stanford wash is really good.

Candon:
Glad Ed is feeling so well. Ben never really has felt like he has cancer. The only symptom has been the sciatica and neuropathy. Ben did the entire dose dense MVAC in one day (about 4 1/2 hours cisplatin, then about an hour total for the other 3, with 15 hours of IV fluids afterwards, so he stayed in the hospital over night.

Ben will not be getting any more scans until he completes Cycle 4, unless they change their plan. I'll be anxious to know how Ed's scan goes after just 2 cycles. We wish you the very best outcome.

WOW, moving on top of everything else. You've got your hands full, but like you said, it's good that Ed has the distraction. Don't overdo it!
