I am just curious if any of you out there have become pregnant after being diagnosed with bladder cancer. I'm not really looking for advice here just wondering if any of you have any knowledge of this.

Yes

You can become pregnant after bladder cancer. I was diagnosed with invasive bladder cancer in august 08 after going through some fertility treatments. I had a radical cystectomy in sept - 08 and my reproductive organs were spared and I was told that we could try if we wanted to. We have choosen to not pursue that as I my reproductive age is "old" and I am currently just grateful to be alive.(and we have children however not any together)
The standard treatment is however during RC to perform a hysterectomy so this is definitively something that one would have to discuss with ones oncologist/urologist.

This question is best answered by your doctor who is qualified to determine what your risks are for recurrence.
Your age, general heath at time of diagnosis, and the treatment needed to become cancer free will be the criteria to examine.
If you are in treatment currently with BCG, then you know there are definite risks to your partner as well as yourself in becoming pregnant.
If you have had treatment for non invasive bladder cancer and have had no recurrences for at least a year, then you might be ready to discuss with your doctor the possibility of becoming pregnant.
There are many factors to take into consideration.
Since bladder cancer is highly recurrent, I'm not sure what treatment you could undertake if a recurrence happened while you were pregnant.
This should be a decision between you and your urologist/oncologist as well as your ob/gyn.
I don't think a young person would necessarily have to rule out pregnancy, but everything would need to be analyzed to make that determination.
As Anna stated, most women need pelvic exenteration also when they must have a radical cystectomy.
I'm not sure we have anyone here who has had a child after their diagnosis of bladder cancer. I do know of one or two who were diagnosed either at the time of the birth of their child or shortly after.

My Daughter is 28 and obviously wants a family. She was trying to concieve when diagnosed with transitional cell carcinoma. High grade diagnoses meant 2 tubts & 6 weeks of BCG, with cysto every 3 months & 3 weeks BCG every 3 months for 1 year. How old are you& what is your diagnosis? I would like to friend you as it seems we have the same concerns! I will pass on any info I can find. Most replies I have had are not favorable, but I refuse to believe there isn't a young female BC patient who hasen't had a baby!
