Patrick Swayzees wife on Oprah...

Generally I am not a TV in the afternoon person, it was worthwhile today as I caught his wife talking about his fight with cancer..
Of course she had many tears, as she rememebed how they as a couple went through their struggle with survival.
Asked how they coped, she explained they were
OPTOMISTIC REALISTS...meaning they knew the seriousness of the cancer, but knew there had to be a first who would be the FIRST one to beat it.
Asked about the moment in the last year that
is most precious to her, when they redid there marriage vows, a fairy tale day, he rode up on a white stallion, married 34 years, had there ups and downs, she said the years define them as a couple, as it is always a work in progress.
As a caregiver, when dealing with cancer, keeping the objective of being OPTIMISTIC REALIST
seems to fit, know what your dealing with but always have HOPE,,,
Boy, wish could haved danced with him one time.

Yes, I was watching him during the last year, and he always seemed so positive - what a good role model for cancer patients. And his wife.
And I agree, to have watched him dance one more time . . . .

I saw the interview they both did at their ranch with Patrick and his wife and it was a great interview. I have to give him credit he had a bad cancer and fought as hard as one could. I still don't know how he made that series "The Beast" while he had the cancer and he admitted toward the end he wasn't sure if could make or not but would never give up, my hat goes off to him for that. His wife is a doll and you can just see the love in her eyes for her man and at the same time knowing the road was a dark one. He definitely was a fighter and will be deeply missed by all. Joe

****** No one puts baby in the corner******

Yeah"BABY"...oh to be BABY..

I think as a caregiver, she stood by her man,no doubt, I admire the spirit with which he and she faced this in there life..I think realistic optomist....really fits,,
if we can all be able to think this way...everyday,how much more you will get out of life...
I'll probably never will see my husband on a white horse,,maybe everyone can find there own fairy tale,,
and live it,

In the Barbara Walters interview, I recall Patrick saying he refused to take any pain medications during the filming of The Beast. He felt it would take the edge off his acting performance or he would be sluggish. I don't know how he did it! He had to be suffering. The guy was tough, and very determined. Admirable qualities demonstrated by both him and Lisa.

"Realistic optimist" is a great description!

Sorry I missed the show....Patrick and Lisa were both very brave and couragious.

I am pretty sure I've seen Dirty Dancing more than any other movie....Baby was one lucky girl!

We aren't afternoon tv people, so we missed it. I really admire the way he fought his cancer(with braveness and grace) and the way she supported him though.

I wished during the months they would show him... that he would be the ONE who was first to beat it. I admire him, and miss him. :) good post.
