Less toxic than BCG: Urocidin?

This new drug is in phase three clinical trials. Does anyone know anything more about it? Here is some information but it doesn't say a lot about how it works, etc. A search on BCAN didn't produce much of anything unless I'm searching wrong.

New drugs in clinical trials are just that, unproven treatments. This is why the clinical trials are underway. It may or may not pan out to be helpful. It may have already been helpful in mouse studies but we do know that animal studies do not always translate to successful human studies,

And whether or not it will have less irritation of the bladder is also an unknown at the moment. But definitely worth a watchful wait.

I agree with what Nancy has said, and there are a few treatments in clinical trials right now, and I am anxiously waiting their outcomes. At least there is some new research being done for BC.

Hi Jan
I am very aware of this drug and trial. Why, well the company Bioniche is the sponsor of our website at Canadian Bladder Cancer Network.
The drug has received fast track approval from FDA.
It is in phase 111 clinical trial, and will begin stage 2 of phase 111 by the end of the year.
In stage 2 of phase 111 trial, the drug will be compared head on vs BCG with 800 patients in the trial.
This will be the true test if the drug has the potential to be an alternative to BCG.
Still a few years away from knowing the results.
Here is the company's website:

Thanks so much, Jack. Very useful info! -Jan

I was going to tell you what Jack said. There are Valstar and mitocyacin available now though.

Lynda

I gather from my reading mitomycin c has varying results and is not a given in successful treatment.
