Enjoyed Meeting Everyone at Chicago Symposium

0 Recommendations

Just wanted to let all know that BJ and her husband Mike's hospitality are second to none; BJ put on a very informative symposium for us. I learned a lot from Doctor Mark Schacht. M.D. who spoke. He is amazing and very knowledgeable. The vendors were very friendly and informative also. Meeting new friends in all different stages of their Journeys was great. Came away so much more informed; for me a relative "novice".

We enjoyed our trip to Chicago; meeting and chatting endlessly with everyone. All the food was too much....So delicious.. I should not eat for a week..

Looking forward to next years: 2nd Annual Bladder Cancer Awareness Symposium.. Thank you from the bottom of my heart BJ for the special time we spent learning and getting to know people.

I have a favor to ask: BJ "next time: try to keep me "outa trouble" will ya???? Noise issue.....My adult sons are still laughing about the that one....

Love ya;
Arlene and Rich

Ginger

Good to know you had a great time, even if you won't share the reason for the 'trouble' and the laughter.
I'm sure everyone who attended, gained needed information to help in this journey.
Awareness is key to making a difference to the newly diagnosed.

Is anyone thinking about attending the Symposium in San Fransisco in November?

AW.. Gee... I will tell... We had gone out to dinner late Friday night (our flight was delayed from Detroit) and returned around 11:00 p.m. or so and said goodby to BJ. She returned to our room a little while later with our T-shirts and we were talking for a while (now mind you it is well after 11:00p.m.) We said goodby and a little later the phone rang and Rich and I looked at each other and said : you answer it..Well, I finally answered it after about the 3rd ring... Low and behold it was the front desk and someone had complained we were to loud...We could either calm it down or we would have to leave... It took me so by surprise..I actually did not know how to reply...I finally told them we weren't drinking or partying..(in fact neither BJ nor I had a drink at dinner.... ) just plain talking...So we aren't really for sure if they meant us or someone else and got us by mistake... but it has been a good laugh ..about BJ and I getting into trouble...So there is your story. No mystery...But we thought funny..

Oh! for learning the Dr. spoke about the new staging methods and told me that I may be able to have a little different design done with the bowel (using a different bowel part) than what is usually done for the outside bag. Which would be less invasive because of my radiation burn problem. I am going to talk with my dr.s about it. He explained several diversions we already know with some different changes also;.... apparently with some changes to the originals.. If you can figure that statement out.. He also went thru different treatments used with variations..
He would answer any questions either personally or with the group.. He told BJ he would come again next time.. So be there to hear him...
Colorplast has new products.. Look them up on their web site...Even a small bag that can be used for 1/2 hr for swiming, Dr. apt or when you are intimate with someone..I think the locking 2-piece bag is new too..

This is coming from someone who is all new to this part so be sure and look it up.......

Well, I would have told the front desk to call the police to have me removed and that they better have tape recording of exactly how loud we were. It's a hotel, it's not a cathedral. People come and go at different times. I had that problem in a hotel once.l I told them if I heard one sound from anyone before 8:00 I would call the front desk every five minutes until they stopped the flow of traffic, slapping of doors, and screeching kids. They didn't bother me after that. Once I asked for my money back for being harassed. They refused of course but I tied up their staff for three hours, including the manager.

Cheyenne:
You need to come next time to protect us from the bullies...
I still think they called the wrong room......It has been too funny....
Arlene

they aren't bullies, they are too stupid for that. they are idiots with a brains like that of a fruit fly. Bullies you can always deal with, tell them to go away, pound them into the ground, things like that. Idiots are much more difficult, they don't have the sense to know what's even going on. I guess you know by now that hotels are my top ten hate list which includes insurance companies, oil companies, banks, and some others.

Arlene,
Sounds like a nice time,,,how many attendees were there? As far as speakers,, 4 or 5,,,,,which did you attend,,? If there was one specific thing you learned ,or was surprised to find out,,,,what would it have been,,,,?
Ginger

Ginger, see my other post above. I told some of what I learned. I liked the Dr. very much. I was surprised to find out they may be able to take a different section of my bowel to connect to the stoma..?Still checking with my own Dr.s.though.
