Ed's diagnosis is grave

2 Recommendations

Ed had his first 3 month cat scan tuesday, three month after his RC. We met with his oncologist today and the news was bleak. The bladder cancer has invaded his liver and the outside lining of his stomach. It is now traveling at great speed throughout his blood stream and if he chooses no chemo, he has 4 months and if chemo works, he has 8 months. We are in shock and I am devastated. We have been married for 40 years this sunday the 13th. Ed's oncologist has started checking for clinical trials. He says there is one at Sloan and one at MD Anderson right now, but maybe too harsh for Ed. We are checking for some around here too and again preparing to fight .

Candon and Ed. This is most upsetting to me. I feel so badly about this. I wish I had some magic. Five years ago I had a frfiend in the same position. 4-6 months. He lived for almost four years and worked almost everyday of it and had is annual hunting trips. hope and pray that there is something that will work even better than that for Ed.

Hi Cheyenne,

You always know what to say and how to make everyone feel better. My eyes are almost closed shut from crying . Someone told us today about a clinical trial using everolimus, a trial for solid tumors. I am calling his office tomorrow.

Thanks again,

Love,

Candon

(((HUGS)))) from Tamlin

I have recently heard of Everolimus and it seems like it is quite promising from what I have read. Please keep us informed and give Ed a big "guy" hug for me. Sure wish I could just step in and take all this burden away from you. But I do trust in God and pray that he will guide you in all your decision making and in helping Ed work through a full recovery.

Candon, My heart is so full for you just now. Everyone here will be just as upset. This cancer is not one that gives up easily. Our job to bring about awareness for early detection is that much more urgent.
We cry with you and pray there is a way to delay his progression. You and the family will fight with him as you've already done, we know. So, so sorry to know of this latest report. Hold each other close while we send you our best, strengthening energy.
Karego

You are both in my thoughts and prayers. I wish there was something I could do to help you through your pain. Don't ever give up hope. We are here for you!!!
Yvonne

Candon and Ed, My heart goes out to you. I hope the Ed can get into a trial and it helps him. My thoughts and prayers are with you both.

Candon,
I am crying myself right now. Somehow I have always felt a connection with you and Ed. Please don't give up hope. Read my inspiration on my profile about my cousin who had pancreatic cancer. They gave her 6 months and she lived 7 1/2 years.

I don't think any doctor knows everything. I read a book called "Miraculous Recovery" when I was first diagnosed. It is very inspirational.

I wish I could hug you tight right now.
Nancy

I am so sorry for Ed and you. We will have been married for 40 yearsa this March. I wish I had a magic cancer wand and could just make this all go away for everyone.

With tears in myes,

Tom

Candon,

Words can't convey how sad I am to hear your news. If ya'll decide to come to MDA for a clinical trial, please let me know what I can do to help you. Meanwhile, we will lift your family in prayer.

Lynda

Oh Candon - Like Nancy I am in tears. You were the first local person to contact me and encourage me. I am so sorry - please let me know what I can do.

I will be praying that like Nancy says - Ed can beat the odds. Check out all and every clinical trial. Feed him foods from the anti-cancer diet - there are incredible stories of nutrition keeping things at bay.

With a broken hearrt - veronica

Candon and Ed; You both will be in my prayers.
Mike

Candon,

I pray that a trial or treatment does exist for Ed. If it’s MDA I’ll help any way I can. The last three words of your post are “preparing to fight.” Keep fighting…

Bob

So shocked and sorry to hear your recent news.. I can only tell you to keep fighting..... Get into a clinical trial you feel comfortable with and and hopefully it will help Ed. My thoughts and prayers are with you...

Hi mom,
This has been the worst day of our lives, well, other than the day that dad was first diagnosed with cancer, last April 30th, 2008. It is great to see all of the inspirational messages from your friends on BCAN. We need all of the encouragement we can get at this time. We need to enjoy each and every minute that our family has left together and hope and pray for a miracle. You and dad have been the best parents that a girl could dream of and everything good in me is because of you and dad. Your unconditional true love for each other has been the best example and the very foundation of my life. You both have made each and every holiday in addition to normal days very special to me and I hope to reflect even an ounce of that to my children as they grow. You and dad are both go-getters and fighters and I am so impressed with how you have been handling all of this, doing so much research and anything possible to save dad. You are truly a Steele Magnolia and I am proud to be your daughter. Love you and good night.

Hi everyone,

Thank each and everyone of you so very much for your heartfelt messages. I feel as if we are all one big family, looking out for each other, feeling each other's pain and joy. As Karego said, we need to get the message out there about early detection and how critical it is. Ed was not one of the fortunate ones. His may have penetrated the bladder wall by the time of detection. It is not over til it's over and we are not going to give up. Miracles happen every day.

Thank you all again for your strength and support. It helps keep me going.

Love,

Candon

Dear, sweet Betty,

Your dad and I love you so very much and are so proud of the young woman you are today. You and your sister have had to learn about cancer way too young , but have been our joy. Give those precious twins a big hug from their grandparents and good night, sweetheart.

Love,

mom

This has been a day of tears, Betty, Ed, Candon you are indeed special people. Your strength at this time is amazing and I will take courage from your example. Thank you,
Mike

Candon and Ed,
I have not been on here long enough to be familiar with your entire story, but I am so sorry! Nobody could
read the poignant letter from "daddysgirl720" without being touched. It is a beautiful tribute.

Miracles can happen.

Candon and Ed,

Don't give up fighting. People defy the odds all the time. I will keep you in my thoughts. We are all here to help.
