I want to start taking Curcumin supplements as I have read it is excellent in killing BC cells. How much per day is recommended?

member "elvisbubba" recently was involved in a detailed thread on this subject ---search for that. I recall that he had done extensive research and even has a good place online to buy this supplement
I notice that Turmuric (from which curcumin is derived, I understand) is supposed to cure hundreds of diseases. I suspect there are no controlled studies to prove any of this.
Does anyone know if there have been any studies on supplements?
Tons!!!
Here is a great web site to start with. It is by the biggest cancer institute, Sloan Kettering. Just hit the letter of the supplement and it will tell you some of the research. Look for the little numbers in the discription as those are some citings of studies.

I checked the site that HLamb cited. It looks like a good source for finding out which herbs have actually been studied, and the studies are available on this site. One would need to read the studies carefully before coming to conclusions.
On reading about Green Tea, nothing is mentioned about how much to have during the course of the day. Also, I understand that they do not know if caffeinated vs. decaf makes any difference in the efficacy of green tea. Also, I read that if someone is going through chemo, no green tea should be taken.
Any thoughts?
I've been thinking about this question of herbs, teas, and supplements. Some are old Chinese remedies, and may or may not work. The problem is that it is hard enough to get good studies with standard treatments like BCG and Mitomycin. How can we expect to get real studies of herbs and supplements? I would say it is OK to use these things just in case they do work, but not OK to use them in lieu of recognized, proven therapies. Some of these supplements and herbs interfere with regular medications, so better check with your doctor and pharmacist to be sure.
No DR is ever going to recommend anything that has not received 100% gov't approval and certification-Their malpractice insurance alone would prohibit them from doing so.
So all the info is going to be anecdotal--will a thousand disclaimers attached to it. That's just the way our litigous society operates. It's too bad--but I think if we keep electing lawyers to be our representatives--this is what your going to get.
sorry for the political comment--if anyone is offended.
Somers, you are absolutely correct, but I would really like to see some positive attributes for supplement use.
Guys, if you have bladder cancer please take time to read these two articles all the way through. I think if you read them all the way you will be stunned. Maitake D-Fraction capsules are available.

Sommers, you are absolutely right about the problem of getting hard evidence. I will repeat that we shouldn't depend on these dietary supplements and herbs and such alone. I see nothing wrong with taking them, provided they are not contra-indicated, but be sure to also take scientifically established treatments like BCG and mitomycin. I wouldn't depend on a diet supplement or something that has only been demonstrated in vitro but never by clinical studies as my sole treatment.
Here is another that goes with two cited above.

Yes, I agree very strongly with natural remedies. Dr's don't prescribe these natural remedies becuase the pharmacutical companies do not approve of them. They loose money! There are clinical studies that have been done on the benefits of hemp oil. If you go and view "RUNNING FROM THE CURE" on www.phoenixtears.ca you can view the testimonials of many that have been extreemly ill, used hemp oil and are still with us today. LEGALISE IT!

There are a lot of technical articles on curcumin. Apoptosis is the killing of cancer cells. Since you must be computer savy to be to have found this site you can find articles showing that curcumin has a problem getting into the blood stream unless taken with bioperine. Doctor' s best sells it mixed but you can buy it separately. However it is know to to induce apoptosis. Keep doing your research and you will find a lot of articles on maitake mushroom with vitamin C and that might be even more distructive to bladder cancer cells. R-Lipoic Acid stabilized is also a must. If you can get your doctor to prescibe the arthritis drug celebrex, that has the most research that shows the most turmor apoptosis in bladder cancer.
