Our mother just had her bladder removed and the surgeon said she was full of cancer and gave her 2 yrs. I have posted a discussion before but never get any feedback. I don't know if I am doing it in the right area but we (our family and mom) need your help and prayers. She was 1 week post op yesterday the 5th.
Any help greatly appreciated!

I am so sorry to hear this fellow Canadian.
Did your mom go along time without diagnosis?

And I am sorry we missed your previous posting.

Prayers for comfort for your mother and family.

i would begin looking into clinical trials....
i know dana farber treats stage 4 with some success in curative, believe it or not.
clinical trial chemo may at least extend her life longer than the 2 years
i've never been one who looks at odds....i know lots of people who beat them.

be proactive
and stay positive

Hi Luvwilma,

I'm so sorry we didn't get your post before. The Doctor said the bladder was full of cancer, or that it had spread outside of the bladder? We had a Canadian member who is knowledgable about Canadian Urologists. I am sure he will jump in when he sees your post.

As for what to do to get better from the surgery...WALK! and then walk some more! Also, take it easy with food--seems like everyone has some trouble with nausea.

Prayers for a speedy recovery going your way.

Lynda

Hi Luvwilma,
Are they going to set her up for a chemo regiment after she recovers a bit ? I will pray that they are wrong in her diagnosis, and they will be able to do something for her !
Your family will be in my prayers for recovery, and treatment.
Kyle

Hi Luvwilma,

I am very sorry to hear of the advanced stage of your Mother's disease and you will both be in my prayers. As Dave said, although the statistics are not good, 15% do have greater than 5 year survival. I don't know, but expect that means they have long term survival. We hope that that will be the case for you.

JJ

I'm so sorry your previous post was missed or overlooked! I am a new member so I'm not sure if I was here yet. I wish I could be of more help. I am a survivor,
so I know it can be done.
Just know we are all praying for you and your family!

I would definitely be looking for a second opinion at a major cancer center. Unfortunately, I am not familiar with Canadian centers but I am sure someone on this board will be able to help you.

Tom in Michigan

P.S. How far are you from Michigan? The University of Michigan has an excellent reputation.

Please send me an email with your mom's information from the Uro. I am a fellow Canadian and would like to assist your mom if I can.
I have also left you my phone number on an email.
Do not give up hope and until all areas have been explored.
Regards,
Jack

Sending prayers to you and your family.

So sorry we didn't see your first plea. If you made a reply inside someone elses post, then it could have been overlooked. Making your own post (discussion or journal) is the way to get our attention.
As for your Mom. Make sure you have all the pathology reports for your own records. Getting a second opinion as to what to do now will clarify your situation. As has been said by others, inquire about clinical trials you might be eligible to take part in. By looking at our parent web site (click on the BCAN logo in the upper right corner) you can learn about how to locate what trials are available.
In the meantime, keep in touch while your Mom is recovering from her surgery. We can support you with any issues you might have in that regard.

You and your family are in my prayers.

Boy, I rarely miss a post,sorry if I didn't see yours,,,

welcome back,,,I am so sorry to hear this news,,
I would take Jack up on his offer, he is our Canadian connection and would be able to get you to the best place possible for treatment,,,there is always hope,
and prayers too coming your way.....ginger

To all whom have replied;
Thamkyou so much for all your encourgement. I just got back from the hospital and Mom is out. I will answer all posts tommorrow, as I am working early in the am Thursday. I am feeling encouraged and this cancer is going to get the fight of it's life from our family. We live in Kelowna BC but had the operation in Calgary. We thank God we did as in Kelowna they would have not removed the bladder and closed her up and wished us the best. The Dr. in Calgary removed the bladder and scaped out lots of CA cells. We are getting her lined up with chemo in Kelowna but getting the doctor in Calgary to line up the med's to use. I thank you all so much and for the first time I am feeling some hope. It has been an intense 7 days in Calgary! Will talk and read everything tommorrow. Please know how much I appreciate everyone and I will talk to you tommorrow.

Colleen

Sorry I didn't see your post. I try to check everyday. Didn't cat scan show anything. They usually have a pretty good idea going into surgery. There are things that can be done, you will get help here. Good luck on your journey. Joycee

Colleen, Thanks for the update on your Mom. Now that surgery is over and she is in recovery mode, take a moment to regroup and recharge your own energy. Make sure you have all the pathology reports for your own files. It is important that you maintain your own files, as you proceed with further treatment.
It will help us to give our best advisements when we know if the cancer was contained inside the bladder or if lymph nodes were positive at the time of surgery. Many of us here had statistically bad prognosis, but are still here to attest to sound treatments after surgery.
Stay in touch with Moonerj, as he will assist you with information regarding treatment in Canada.

Thinking of you and your family today Colleen. Hope you get some rest.

Hugs from PEI

Many prayers are going up for you and your mother. Take care of yourself in order to be strong for her.

Praying for mom,,,,the chemo may just do the trick for her,and you will have many good years to have her with you...I am sorry your first post was overlooked, generally were right on the spot,,,,
well, were with ya NOW!!!!! prayers coming from Cleveland Ohio.......to your family.......

So sorry for the diagnosis! I sure hope your mum is one of the ones who beats the odds. Chemo is so good now; hopefully she will sail through that and be on the way to recovery.
I live in Gibsons, so if there's anything I can do from here, let me know. I had my bladder out nearly a year ago in Vancouver, then had chemo here.
