Ben has completed MVAC Cycle 1.

1 Recommendation

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to let you all know that so far, Ben has done very well. He finished his MVAC at 7pm last night, but remained in the hospital overnight, as they pushed fluids into him for 15 hours, following by Amoxi for nausea. He is finally at home in his recliner, and snoozing comfortably. I am SO glad this has gone so well, so far. He had a little nausea at 2am, but they gave him some ativan, and he's been good since, and boy, is he eating. The hotel I stayed at includes cooked to order breakfast so per his request, I took him a vegetarian omelet, bagel and cream cheese and it disappeared in no time. That was in addition to the oatmeal and hard boiled egg they gave him at the hospital.

They checked his blood before we left, and he will get it checked again on Friday. Thank you all again for your prayers.

i also ate well....if you need me to i'll find the drug cocktail i took for 4 days during and after treatment,,,,there were 4 piles of pills and emend,,,,

never got sick.....and actually gained 5 lbs.

my doctors and dana/ harvard med. had it down to a science.....

and they alway said ...SLEEP IS GOOD....

i'm thinkin of posting something ....this forum has been awful lately....and needs a correction...

don't listen to the negative BS,,,,,i never do

by round 3 or 4....it will be another "no big deal"...keep him eating and get thru this....

then go from there.....

peace

Cheyenne, you bet, he'll share it, but what the heck, you both deserve the whole enchilada...

Thanks JJ and Blaine. It is a relief to be through Cycle 1 with not effects yet.

Cathy

Daveyo, Great to hear from you!!!! You know you've always been an inspiration to me. Ben had the emend on chemo day, today, and will have it again tomorrow. He has antibiotics to start on Saturday (Levaquin), and has anti nausea meds to take if he starts to feel ill. I'm giving Ben neupogen injections for 8 days also (next time it will be Neulasta, but I had 1k worth of neupogen syringes left from last chemo the he didn't finish. He didn't eat much tonight, and is asleep again, which is good. I just pray he feels well, we both know he'll be tired. Next milestone is getting through Friday's bloodtests without major issues.....and no, I don't sweat the negative BS anymore. Peace be with you as well, my friend.

This is wonderful news, I'm happier for your family than I can adequately express in words. You've been a very good friend (my first here I think?) to me ever since my first arrival on this forum, and I follow all your posts very closely. I expressed my interest in this particular (exciting to me) treatment to you when you first posted about it a few weeks ago and I have been eagerly awaiting news. Do you know when his first scans will be, so that his response to this may perhaps be gauged? At the risk of sounding selfish, this is of great interest to me. I really love you all and want nothing but the best for Ben and your wonderful family, and I am counting on many more happy reports from you.

Hi Loonym, Ben will be doing 3 more cycles, Nov 2nd, Nov 16th and Nov 30th if he is able to tolerate the accumulation of the drugs. Then they will do scans to see how the BC responds. Please feel free to message me directly any time. I would never think of you as selfish, and feel blessed to be your friend. I hope Annabelle is doing well, and I'm so glad to see you're back posting again. I'm praying for you and your family and think of you often. How is your Dad? Getting chilly up there?

Love and hugs,
Cathy

sounds right...i did the neulasta on day 3 after the cycle....
emend day 2 ,3 and 4....plus the 3 drug cocktail...

i'm here if you need info....mvac dose dense works

hey jon....i thought we were friends!!!!...lol

We're counting on it, Daveyo. Thanks for the encouragement!

I'll be looking closely at your case too Dave, when you have your upcoming check. After that I'm not sure if 'll need info. Instead I'll need a doctor who will do this treatment on me, although I'm not certain I'll have that luxury considering my geographic and economic limits.

dr rosenberg at dana will put you in clinical jon....cost is absorbed....\
i wish you would do it, because you need to be here for your little one my man.

Hi Cathy,

That is great that Ben is doing so well and has finished his cycle 1 already! One side effect to look out for during his treatment. One of the 4 chemo drugs can cause a photo sensitivity to light. Make sure Ben wears sunglasses while out . Monday Ed met with a couple of fencing contractors in our back yard and it was very sunny. Neither one of us gave it a second thought for Ed to put his sunglasses on and after 2 hours ourside, he now has burns all around the skin near his eyes. He is seeing an eye doctor thursday morning. Ed's oncologist has never seen this happen before. At least this didn't happen on one of Ed's football weekends! It is true about the nadir. Around the 7th or 8th day after treatment, their white cells are at their lowest . Ed drinks so much water that he didn't feel bad this time, just tired like Dave said he felt. Lots of water. Ed has found that the only way he can down so much water is to have the bottles extra cold so he carries around a small cooler with bottled water on ice and it works for him. Ben will do great!

much love,

Candon

Doing well. So glad he has an appetite.
