"A Place Where Cancer is the Norm"

0 Recommendations

There is a very interesting article in the New York Times about M.D. Anderson: treating cancer. the effect cancer has on people's lives, etc. You can find it by going to http://www.newyorktimes.com and doing a search for the headline "A Place Where Cancer is the Norm". It is very well written and several of the people they interview are health care workers who have cancer themselves. It'll bring tears to your eyes...

Jan, thanks for posting this! I just finished reading and it is an emotional article, but well worth the time.

Well, just as you said, it is a tough read. But it is one we need to read. It is a wonderfully written article, and one that is heart breaking. Still between all the lines there is a message. Hope! But even that is difficult to do.

Thanks for posting this. Not what we want to see, but it is what we need to see.

I enjoyed the article as well. Thank you for sharing.

Jan,

My husband had a bone marrow transplant at MDA eight and a half years ago. It became our home for months and months at a time. It is just like the article describes it to be. The docs there just don't give up. I feel very fortunate to have a place like MDA so close to my home. Thanks for the post. It was a good read.

That was the message I took from this article also--Hope. As difficult as it was to read, it is amazing to know this place exists and is helping so many people.

M.D. Anderson reminds me of this site, which is also an awesome place, with people helping each other out so incredibly much. The New York Times needs to write about us, also!

How good to know you had such a good experience at M.D. Anderson, Lynda!

Thank you - I enjoyed this article and the underlying message of hope. I also liked the angle of health practitioners who understand because they too are undergoing treatment and battling the disease. Definitely a gifted reporter and writer. Thanks again for sharing - V

Thank you so much for sharing this article with us. We have been at MD Anderson for the past 5 months. My husband did chemo prior to his RC surgery. It is an amazing place. We met so many families from all over the world. We are all there for one reason.....to fight cancer and to have HOPE!

Thanks again!
Stacey

thank you for sharing

kinda stopped me in my tracks

the reality of this disease is scary to say the least

so we must keep fighting and hopefully one day

WE WILL ALL BEAT IT

Thanks for sharing. Very well written article and being a nurse, I now "know" what some of my patients are going through. This article stresses to never give up hope. One day we will win this battle against the monster called cancer. Until then, we fight together. Thank you all for being a support and inspiration to me. I am very new to this site and wish I had known about it when I was first diagnosed and was in the middle of my fight. It would have made it easier. But I know you are all there now. Had a urine cytology done today. Praying for negative results.
