A little ray of HOPE!

0 Recommendations

I came home from the hospital to rest up a bit and then back to the hospital again. I am so very thankful for all of the prayers sent our way and all the well wishes. When I got to the hospital this morning I ran into the doctor in the hallway. He told me that Dennis' lungs are filled with cancer, the cancer in his liver is progressing and suspects that he has cancer in his abdomen. I am questioning the abdomen thing because he cannot be sure without opening him up and they are not going to do that. The gastro surgeon came in and said that he has a partial bowel obstruction which he believes is easying up some. The little ray of hope is that they are going to start him on another chemo on Monday at the hospital. I was not there when he was told that so I don't know which chemo it is. But I do want to find out so that I can read up on it. Supposedly it has been used on cases like his and has shown some good results. I have to stay optimistic. As long as Dennis is wanting and able to try another therapy then I am 100% behind him. We are not ready to give up. I am believing that all of your prayers were heard.
I will update when I can.
Ginger......Thank you for being there for me. I'll talk to you soon.
God Bless you ALL.

Hi Mary,

I am glad that there is a new alternative for Dennis to try. I am with you, as long as he wants to keep trying keep on and perhaps you will find the right combination. Best wishes for success with the new regimen.

JJ

Mary,

You never know, maybe the new drug will help. Ya'll will be in our prayers.

Mary, Dennis is lucky to have such wonderful and loving support in you! Please rest when you can and take care of yourself so you can continue to be strong for him.
Best of luck with the new regimen and know you are in my heart and my thoughts.
michelle

I am praying for a miracle, and expecting it to happen.

Here's hoping the new meds do the trick. I wish you both well.

Mary, It truly is difficult to be there when the Doc's make rounds. So, if you need clarification on orders, ask the nurse to have the doctor call you or get the floor nurse to tell you what the orders are.
We're hoping like you that there is another chemo to try.
Hang tough, girl. Dennis is fighting.

Mary~

Prayers will continue for both of you.

Only you and Dennis will know when it is time to stop trying.
As long as there is a thread of hope....
hope can keep us going for a very long time!

There are always miracles to be had.
I hope one comes your way.

There are so many new advances and new clinical trials on chemo therapies that if Dennis is willing to take it on, the I support him, and you. I have seen others in his situation who are doing well 12 years later and cancer free. I wish I could say with certainty that will be the case with Dennis, all I know is the this kind of thing has been licked before. And I believe in the power of prayer. My prayers and best wishes are with you both.

Everyone decides for himself when to continue treatment and when to stop. If a doctor told you there is a good chance that this would work, then that is good. However if he says things like respond and shrinking, and nothing more, I would ask exactly what he means. My sister died of breast cancer and we kept giving her the chemo and radiation til the day she died, she had no quality of life, she wanted to stop but we kept pushing. Now 10 years later I realize we should have let her decide and go with her wishes. This is a tought position to be in. I pray the right answers come your way. Joycee

i know they use high dose MVAC for stage 4 at dana farber with some success

Where in Michigan are you? We are in the Lansing area?

I have heard people say that 'friends are better than family at time'. Well, I'm here to say that 'strangers are even better'. I am amazed at all the well wishes and prayers that are sent our way. And I am very grateful for each and every one of them. And......I think they're working! Today, one of the associate oncologists came into see Dennis and told us that they are hopeful that this chemo(5FU) is going to do some good. So please keep the prayers coming our way. I am praying like I've never prayed before because Dennis is so hopeful this time. Thank you all again SO VERY MUCH!!!
Tom........I am in Commerce Michigan, about an hour from Lansing. Dennis is in Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak.
