Klebsiella infection

0 Recommendations

My 10 year old granddaughter had a culture for strep
throat after having a sore throat and headache. The culture came back negative for strep but positive for klebsiella. She has no known conditions that perdispose her to klebsiella in the throat.
Anybody have any experience like this?

Klebsiella Fever

My 1 yr old son started running a high fever on last thursday and was also swabbed for strep, and the strep was negative but I found out yesterday his culture was positive for Klebsiella. That is so weird, I have been a pediatric nurse for 12 yrs and I have never heard of it before...especially in the throat. Unfortunatley, he is still sick, and he had to get a shot of Rocephin yesterday, and was started on Augmentin today. I am a little concerned too. When you start reading about it on the web, its really scary.

Hi Georgiagirl123"
Thanks for the reply. My granddaughter was on amoxicillinfor the usual 10 days. They did another swab on Monday. All she has had was a low grade temp. We are just waiting for results. Keep me posted about your son and I'll let you know what is going on here. This is really scary. The nurse at the office said she hadn't heard anything about it either. My daughter is a respiratory therapist and is also baffled.
Take care of that precious child and God bless you both.

Thank You, I will keep you posted. It is very scary. He is some what better, but still not that well, so I am worried. Keep me posted. Godbless you.

georgiagirl123,
Well we got good news. The last swab showed nothing. I don't know what happened this first time but we are truly grateful.
She wasn't really sick to begin with, just a msore throat, no temp, etc.
How is your son? I'm praying for him and you.

Oh Thats Great news...we are going to re swab my little one this week, so I will let you know. He is much better, and now I am sick, but I guess thats the way it goes! We are already seeing flu and have had a couple of documented cases this week! Scary! The nasal flu vaccine is already available and I am making sure we all get it this week! Take care:)

georgiagirl123,
How is your little one? I pray that all is well.

He is Great! Thanks for asking! I am keeping my fingers crossed that we can make it through flu season without getting sick! We have seen a ton of swine flu here! Its terrible. Make sure you get your flu shots. Take care and stay well.

Haven't heard of any swine flu here yet. I always get flu shots, why take the chance?
Glad to hear that your son is great.
