Which autoimmune disease(s) do you have?

5 Recommendations

Since there are at least 80 distinct autoimmune diseases, I'm asking which one(s) people here have.

Hello. I have dermatomyositis a disease of the muscles and the skin. I also have developed psoriasis and recently developed avascular necrosis from heavy steroid use(prednisone)

i have rheumatoid arthritis - luckily i found Enbrel, which has allowed me to get off Prednisine after taking it for 15 years

Have either of you looked into low dose naltrexone?

Naltrexone is used for treating alcohol dependencies, how is this helpful with auto-immune conditions?

In low doses...i.e.3-4.5 mg/night ...it seems to help various autoimmune diseases. Check www.ldn.org for example.

I HAVE SEVERE PSORIASIS AND AFTER MANY DIFFERENT DRUGS AND LOTS OF PAIN , I AM NOW ON HUMIRA AND TALCONEX. NOT THERE YET BUT AM SEEING A DEFINITE CHANGE.

What's TALCONEX?

I have Rheumatoid Arthritis, Osteoarthritis, and Sjogrenes Syndrome. I am on Enbrel, 25 mg twice a week, Methotrexate, 0.6 ml injection once a week, Prednisone, 20 mg, as needed (my discretion), Tramadol, and Tylonol Arthritis Strength.

TACLONEX IS A STEROID TOPICAL CREAM, TOOK A LONG TIME TO SEE RESULTS BUT STARTING TO WORK WITH THE HUMIRA SHOTS.

Naltrexone is different from talconex. See www.ldn.org

I have Sjogren's Syndrome.

I think we should all check www.ldn.org .Low dose naltrexone seems to help quite a few autoimmune diseases.

I have Rheumatoid Arthritis. I take prednisone, Enbrel, 9 Methotrexate/a week, plaquenil, naproxen, and various pain meds as necessary. Symptoms since April 2004, but diagnosed about a YEAR LATER. I am followed at Georgetown University. Sorry we all have to be on this site. Hang in there :-) Wendy

Dermatomyositis, skin/muscle disease

I have Neurosarcoidosis and possibly MS.

I have Sarcoidosis and arthritis of some degree. I'm currently not taking anything for either, other than Ibuprofen or Aleve when I feel some pain in my lower back or joints.

I went into remission with the Sarcoid back in 2001 and haven't experienced the scary episode I had in the Spring of that year. However, there are times when I find myself catching my breath and I've developed discomfort in my right ribs, especially when driving. I also started feeling pain in my right lung again late last year and went through another series of x-rays and scans which showed a nodule. Had a biopsy done and it turned out to be nothing thank goodness.

I'm just unfamiliar with Sarcoid and would like to learn a lot more. I've been told that it is rare for it to flare up again, but how can you ever really know?

10/11/08 will be the 4th annual Low Dose Naltrexone conference. It will be at USC. I'm planning on attending.

I have severe Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis, autoimmune hypothyroidism, and some symptoms of lupus. I also have other immune-related health issues, such as asthma and eczema as well as uveitis (eye inflammation) from the JRA. I have had JRA since I was 7 or so but was only diagnosed correctly at age 18. I am now 32 and doing better. I was on very high dose Remicade but had to stop it after I developed antibodies to the medication-who knew?!? I now take Humira, inject methotrexate, and take a bunch of other meds for the JRA as well as Synthroid. I also take prednisone when I flare-usually every few months. I wish everyone the best!

I had Guillain Barre' in 1984, Polymyalgia Rheumatica from 1996 to 2003 and have mild psoriasis.
I had to take prednisone for 6 years which helped to destroy my previously good bone density, and then upon taking Didronel for to help build bone, instead ended up with bad Gerd..the Nexium I have to take from that kept my calcium from absorbing so now I am starting to completely fall apart...lol...but I am hanging in there, happy to be alive and still trying!
Now I take 2 -40 mg Nexium and 2 Zantac daily, plus 10 Mg Lipitor and 5 mg Lisinopril. Nothing for pain except a rare Vicodin when my back gets too bad as Tylenol is worthless for pain and all of the other ones destroy my gut.
I learned meditation many years ago and sometimes try to disconnect my mind from my body and get away from the pain for a little while that way.
We may not all be in great health, but we are here, coping and helping and a big HUG to each of you!

I have autoimmune thyroditis.
