How to lose weight safely with hep c?

0 Recommendations

Does anyone have any suggestions for losing weight safely after being diagnosed with chronic hep c.
I know being over weight can be unhealthy for many reasons but I am stumped.
I read losing weight to fast can be hard on your liver so what is a safe rate to lose weight.
I can only excercise a little because of severe fatigue.
Is there one diet over another that would be benificial? Thanx

HI,
I too have Hep C and I am also overwieght. I also am a nurse, and studied nutrition somewhat. The important thing to remember about liver disease is not to eat to much protien. I don't know what your labs are like so if your enzymes are elevated you should be on a restricted protein diet. Talk to your hepatologist (liver specialist) or your primary care physician and get a referal to a dietictian/nutritionist. As far as the fatigue goes you should get plenty of rest, go to sleep early in the evening I would say by nine or nine thirty. People tend to seem much more energetic if they go to sleep before ten pm. I have had a transplant and am now taking pegasys and ribaviron for Hep C, I am tired but I work my twelve hour shifts (full time) at the hospital and I have a second job cleaning resort rentals. It has really helped me by going to bed by nine thirty and getting a 20 minute nap on my days off. some days are better than others but I am able to keep on going. One more thing about energy and weight loss is if you eat small amounts throughout the day it will help especially if you are eating lots of fruits and veggies with some whole grains.
Please let me know if any of this helps you out at all, I'm sure it will it has helped me.

Thank you so much for your help. I will talk to my DR when I see him in a couple of weeks.
Good luck with treatment. Hang in there treatment can be tough. Make sure you drink lots of fluids. It helped me.

Thanks I have been drinking lots of water! Have you go through treatment also? If so I would like to know a little about your treatment, genotype and outcome.

hi again, ive been through treatment also but was unable to finish at the time because my husband had passed. found the treatment to be very rough. When I was diagnosed around 98 Iwas told I was grade 3 stage three with macro steotosis, genotype was 1b, i cant remember know very tired all the time sometimes I just want to cry i have trouble thinking clearly. I wonder is there any relationship between my severe degenerative disk disease and my hepc. I think you are very brave for having the transplant!

thinking clearly? Have blood work drawn, asp. Your amonia levels could be way to high. It's part of liver disorders; put on lactolose? to make me think clearer, rid myself of toxins..just from my own experience too. I had my liver transplant over 19 years ago. Autoimmunine Hep. For Hep. C patients we are your last resort, " nightmare " Always ask questions, write them down, high levels of amonia make us so forgetful. Listless, lethargic, light headed and dizzy!!
Take care.

I was just diagnosed with Chronic Hepatitis with mild Steatosis, Fibrosis approaching cirrhosis (stage 3-4) and moderate to severe activity, (Grade 3-4).
Commet: Lymphoid aggregate noted raises the possibility of hep C. With my history of positive ANA, autoimmune hepatitis cannot be excluded (plasma cells are notied focally). Other differential diagnosis includes NASH (non-alcoholic steatohepatitit), and drug effect. Correlation with the clinical findings and serologies is recommended.

I need your help on what I can do to keep myself healthy now, so I can continue to live my active life. I'm retired, I love to ballroom dance and help w/instructing. I also love to travel. I'm not a sit down person, and active all day long. Please help me on what I can do to maintain a healthy life.
