Paul Zeltzer

My husband was diagnosed in may 2012 with anaplastic Astrocytoma and completed radiation and temodar together. Now is doing monthly temodar 5 days a month and just finished his second round of that. There was less evidence if cancer at his first post surgery MRI in August. However I want to make sure we are doing everything we can he is just 22 and we are having our first child tomorrow via c section. I have contacted Paul Zeltzer who has wrote anti cancer books and patented neeedles for spinal taps etc. he is wAnting me to send him a fee for looking at my husbands records, etc. I was just wondering if anyone else had done this or knows anything about his expertise?

I've never heard of this person and don't believe that having written books or patented needles for spinal tabs make him qualified to evaluate your husband's medical records. From what you wrote, your husband is receiving the standard protocols, and if you would like a second opinion, I would talk first to your neuro-oncologist. I have found that they are always open to getting second opinions.

Dear CCCATRON,

I was diagnosed with the same thing in August of 2012. Left frontal temporal Anaplastic Astrocytoma Grade III. The medial left temporal already had been removed in '99 as a Grade I Astrocytoma and no further treatment for that.

When it recently re-occured I too underwent surgery and had a good almost total resection. If they had removed any more, my quality of life would have been lousy. I said no thanks and that I'd rather life a short life than a lousy one. My oncologyst assured me that there are more chemo treatments out there if the Temodar isn't doing enough. Each month or two in the beginning gives them time to see what works and how the patient tolerates the type of chemo and the dose. I just returned from my first follow-up appointment after my first chemo and I had really good CBC labs! So we're increasing the Temodar another 25%, so probably about 500 mg per day for 5 days per month for a year.

There are four Astrocytomas and often times the tumor will be a mixed one. The standard protical is to attack the worst or biggest tumor and the other smaller or lower grade tumors often go away as well. If not, they've got several other treatments to add to the Temador. I didn't need radiation and was releaved. I can save that for further down the road if needed. But if your husband had both radiation and chemo, they were being super aggressive becuz very few of these types of tumors can be completely resected. I think his course of treatments sound good and he also has the great benefit of being younger. That's a huge matter in recovery as well as support.

I think that baby and you will have Daddy around for a long time. I know I will be too. God Bless & Congratulations! :-)
