Lithium

0 Recommendations

We are a family of four who live in SOUTHERN New Jersey near Philadelphia.

Already familiar w/the lithium results in the Italian trials, I am a recently-diagnosed male ALS patient who is DESPERATELY trying to locate a doctor in my area
(ZIP 08065) who is willing to dispense LITHIUM for ALS.

Thus far, I have spoken w/four local neurologists who say almost exactly the same thing:

"CAN I prescribe lithium? Yes. WILL I? NO."

All want to WAIT ... for more proof that lithium works.
WAIT while deterioration goes on and on.

Is there anyone who knows of a reputable doctor in my area who will dispense this medication?

Please respond if you have an answer. Thank you for your help!

I have been on Rilutek since 2001 and began with Lithium in April. I do see a marked improvement in the way I walk. Not like Mike but some. Any improvement or remission is a plus. I was first told ALS in Dec of 1995, so you see I still here and still working. I feel blessed. Joe

I have been on Rilutek for seven years and started on Lithium in early April. Haven't noticed any results as yet but hoping it has at least further slowed my progression. I guess only more time will tell.

I had no problem getting my regular doctor putting me on lithium but In 2 month I don't see much

my doctor will not do anything until after December and I am losing arm strength after fully losing the legs. My wife is trying her GP. I will try anything as I have seen the Italian studies too

spinningdr...do you have an email address?

I can be reached at wittmer211@verizon.net. also my wife went to see her doctor yesterday and he is coming to my house to prescribeLithium, I feel blessed to have my wife's doctor. wjw

Lamere53,
I am a 58 year old male living with ALS since 1995. I have been on Lithium since early April. At first I saw some improvement in my thumbs, and ankles. Now I am not sure. My bowl movements have become labored and my feet look swollen. I will attempt to attach several sites that are from my friend Mike from Finland on taking lithium.

I do not know if this will help, Dr. Samuel Schneider is a psychiatrist in Princeton, NJ. He is wonderful and helps me weekly as I try desperately to fight depression upon the loss of my dad who had ALS. Anyway, Dr, Schneider has a tremendous heart and it would be worth the visit to his office to talk about your situation.I have a feeling he would help you anyway he can. His number is 609 9243980. God bless you and may a cure be around the corner for you. Remember, miracles occur daily and never lose hope. Warm Regards, Debbie Wewer
