My schoolmate, Frank, was diagnosed with ALS a few years back. Before the diagnosis, he was a lifelong surfer and enjoyed riding motorcycles. He worked as a prison guard down in San Diego.
At one point before his diagnosis, Frank came up with the term, Big Fat Love. It means to do something nice for someone else without getting or expecting recognition for it.
Last year, Frank's wife left him after he was placed on hospice status. About a year later, he is now divorced, but was able to go to court to fight for home that he purchased several years before his marriage.
Frank shows us every day the meaning of Big Fat Love. Frank's friends and co-workers have rallied around him to help fundraise and help provide him with the love and support that he deserves. His friends have created a webpage at www.friendsforfrank.com to have a place to send him encouraging messages and share photos, etc.
If you have a chance, please take a moment to visit www.friendsforfrank.com and leave a message for Frank. If you don't know what to say, just say "Big Fat Love".
This year, I am completing half marathons in honor of my friend, Frank. Next week, I will be spreading some Big Fat Love at the Seattle Rock and Roll half marathon. I consider every step a little prayer for my dear friend, Frank.
Big Fat Love,
Ann
