ALS-Major League Baseball - Lou Gehrig Day

1 Recommendation

"Batting for the Cure" Newsweek, Nov. 1, 2008 advocates July 4, 2009 as Lou Gehrig Day - a FUNDRAISER for ALS. The 70th anniversary of Lou Gehrig's famous speech at Yanke Stadium. What role is ALS National playing? Has anyone heard of what we can do to facilitate this effort? This would generate so much more money than our walks, etc. How can we get behind this idea?

It would also generate some much needed buzz about ALS.

Thanks for responding. I can't understand why there isn't a tremendous push via ALS organizations for this project.
There is a petition somewhere on line in Inspire but haven't been able to locate. Additionally, don't know who started the petition and who will be the recipient.

Please let me know if you find out anything - I'm late to the party since the article was in November. Wrote to the author last week - no response to date.

The petition is at http://www.petitiononline.com/122296/petition.html There are almost 1600 signatures so far.

Hello,

Actually The ALS Association is aware of this MLB event and is in touch with MLB about being involved to help promote the event and benefit from awareness generated. As of now the details are not clear on either side so there is not much to talk about excep that The ALS Association will be involved in some way. As more information becomes available we will be posting items on our blog and on our Twitter account.

For info on these and more please visit: http://www.als-ny.org
