Well since Im complained enough to my Nurse Practioner today, About how im feeling, my last CA was 20 , before that 26 . I felt really worried about my bowels and such, and called today and like many of you said you have to be your own advocate, I want to THANK you all for giving me that advice here.
Well she speaking to the doctor today and going to order a Upper GI series.
Ive had everything done to me under the sun.
But not this. I read a bit about it and know its not painfull. But why would they order and Upper GI and not a catscan? I would think it might show more.
Just worried and a bit worked up too about this.
So if anybody has had one or could explain to me maybe why not a CT or Pet and a GI first it would be helpfull.

Ask her why an upper GI instead of a CT scan. You have to be proactive. It's your body.

If you have a noncancerous condition in your stomach or small intestine, that would not show up on a CT scan I don't think. Maybe she suspects something noncancerous going on. I agree with the other poster, call and ask your doctor. Don't let this anxiety go on and on until the test when a simple phone call could allay your fears.

I had one before my cancer diagnosis. They had me drink some nasty chalky liquid...two bottles. They took pictures with me standing, lying down, and in different positions. At one point I had to walk up and down the halls and come back and they took more pictures. It was not comfortable but not too bad.

all of you are comforting and helpful which im greatful for, I left her a message she was out of the office, and I will be calling her tomarrow morning. I dont know what they are thinking, cancer or not, and the reason for ordering it was me complaining of a bowel change and bouncin CA 125, I love my doctors they are greaqt, but sometimes a heck to get ahold of. Im not so scared about taking the test now that it was explained and you all gave me some helpful advice here. Thanks so much.

I know what you mean about getting hold of the doctor. My oncologist is great but she is in surgery twice a week and off on Friday. I hope you can get some answers so you can rest your mind. Hopefully it is to rule out a stomach condition. I had GI problems before my cancer but the 4 months of chemo has aggravated it. I hope that is what is causing yours.

My experience has been that many patients have this procedure. It is not painful, just not fun - drinking the liquid required to perform the test. It could eliminate a lot of things if nothing else. If your doctor still wants to do one or can explain why, it is not a bad idea. Could give you some peace of mind.

well I recieved a call yesterday from the nurse practioner yesterday, and she needs to confer with my doctor who happened to be in labs yesterday. I will know by frinday IF they now want to refer me to a GI doctor OR do some other tests.
I feel we are wasting time with this and acatscan would show everything ( Im pretty sure I have a recurrance) and this is delaying things. So I wont get a reply till thrusday or friday.
So I now have to wait.
Its just so frustrating to me thats all.
