Ovarian cancer "magnet" research takes first promising steps

Some scientists have taken an intriguing approach to fighting cancer by "dragging" it out of the body with magnets. I think it's best to let the article explain itself:

"Magnetic nanoparticles coated with a specialized targeting molecule were able to latch on to cancer cells in mice and drag them out of the body. The results are described in a study published online this month in the Journal of the American Chemical Society. The study's authors, researchers at Georgia Institute of Technology, hope that the new technique will one day provide a way to test for--and potentially even treat--metastatic ovarian cancer."

It is a very intriguing time in Ovarian Cancer research on many fronts, and I try to monitor them as best I can. I hope such reports on research progress give people cause to remain hopeful for those whose disease is currently difficult to counter.

Joseph, Thank you for finding and posting this for us. On the nanoparticle (sometimes called nanotube) front, I seem to recall that there have been some findings about whether these unique structures can end up in places in the body where they should not be. Do you know anything about that?

I want to tell a short story about what happened to me. In December 2007, a scan picked up enlarged lympth nodes under my left arm. The doctor could feel them. Ok, about October of 2007, I got a "ZAPPER", mailed to me free. Oh I used it a little bit, but I wanted to experiment with it. For 2 weeks I put it under my arm about 3 times a day for 20 minutes. I had surgery scheduled in 2 weeks. I had lymphoma non hodgkins in 2001 and had chemo for that. The Dr. as well as myself were pretty sure that these nodes were going to be malignant too. Oh well I asked the Dr. and he said it wouldnt hurt to wear that zapper. After Surgery the doctor came in and told me that the Nodes even thoush they were growing were Benign. I think we were both shocked.
Now since being on Chemo again my new pet scan shows more enlarged lymph nodes in different parts of my body.
The article you just brought up about magnets reminded me of that Zapper for some reason. I havent used the Zapper again but I might start. You just never know. What if someone so simple could remove bad cancer cells?
I have not done any alternative therapy, except if you want to count the Zapper. Therese
