A Hair Question

Hi ladies.....I had my last chemo on June 23rd. My hair started to grow back by the first of August and grew like gangbusters for about a month and a half. I know it probably hasn't stopped growing, but it really seems like it has stopped. It is still so short that I look like a man, and although it is thick thick thick, it isn't getting any longer. It isn't even long enuf to gel into a mohawk. It is almost 4 months since chemo and I thought I'd have more hair by now.
What have your experiences been regarding hair regrowth?
Thanks and keep on fighting!

and when can I start coloring it again?

Hi --

I finished my chemo mid April and my hair is about 1 and 1/2 inches now. It looks shorter because it is also VERY curly. It did seem to have a time when it didn't seem to be growing much and then all of a sudden it looked like it had. I think it just sneaks up on you. ;o)

As far as coloring it is concerned I wasn't told anything specific. I only waited to color mine until the hair was long enough that you couldn't see my scalp very much. The hair color dies your skin too and I just didn't want it to look like I had died my scalp! Otherwise I would have colored it IMMEDIATELY. Both my husband and I decided that we weren't ready for me to be grey!

Good luck -- Martha

Hi - I finished my tretment July 1 and I am able to spike my hair with a little gel in it. Not by much, but it does stick up there. I started putting pure coconut oil on my head as a beautician mentioned that this worked on her dad for baldness but did not know if it would because of the chemo. I bought and tried it not sure if it worked or not, I posted an entry awhile ago about hair growth and received mixed replies back. I also use an essential oil on my head to promote hair growth, one for sure is lemon grass, but I am using frankincense. If you go somewhere that has essential oils they will be able to help you on what products you may use for your hair. The coconut helps clean out your pours on your scalp. Hang in there and enjoy trying different hairstyles while it grows back unless you already know what you want to do with it. I always had longer hair so I have lots of opportunites to decide what to do with it now. Kelly

My chemo ended on New Year's Day and it was around April before I needed a slight trip to shape the uneven growth. My hair is straight, so maybe that's why it "seemed" longer. The curls probably hide a teeny bit more length. Just try to be patient. You have more than you did in June!

I can't seem to suggest this enough: NIOXIN shampoos and conditioners. You have to get it from a salon(I think). I used it post chemo and my hair grew in quicker and thicker!!

I had my last chemo in mid April and my hair is barely growing, and it is really thin still! I'm kinda worried. My hair was always very thick and grew really fast. They say when your hair comes back, it is usually opposite of what you used to have so..........I'm hoping,,,,,I will look for the pure coconut oil and see if that might help.

One of the things I will tell you is your hair holds the chemicals you use. I believe your hair is growing bu breaking off due to being fried like one of those bad perms. I wouldn't dye it because of the possible reaction. what I would do is trim it and condition, I know the thought of cutting your chemo fur is sad, but I think it will come back healthier .
Yeah mines totally dif had slight curl & thick now thin & straight. A funny one day I was complaning about not getting my braid straight and having a bad hair day . My son who at 25 gave up and shaved his head. Looked at me and laughed. Mom you don't know what a bad hair day is. A bad hair day is when there's more in the sink than on your head. I know bad hair days now & choose to do less and less a trim a pony tail & the heck with it.
P.S. my gray was fought for 4 children 7 grand children I earned this silver.Another funny my Mom swore she'd never dye her hair .Then when I went home one summer there she was with dyed hair. I asked why .Answer was simple everybody I saw who had gray hair had this wonderful silver , mine on the other hand looked like a dog had peed on my head. She was a very blunt person and when asked by others she would tell them yes or no. she would even give advice to semi strangers .So dying or not is a simple decision like it or not .It's your decision.

I have heard Ovation Cell Therapy advertised a ton. Dr. Laura promotes it. I don't know anything about it however. I would be concerned about chemicals in any of these products as well as hair color. My hair started growing back in late June and it is still very very thin. But I am also on a new chemo regimen which might have halted the growth. Good luck Jeanie.

Hey Phoenix......can you be more specific about the Nioxin? On the website there are a ton of Nioxin products and I'm not sure which ones you are using.
Thanks
Jeanie

The Phoenix,
Don't they have a number to go by as to what type of Nioxin you want for your hair?? What # do you have?
