Cheese/Casein allergy without Milk allergy

0 Recommendations

My 4 year old son just tested positive for a cheese/casein allergy but not for milk. This just doesn't make sense to me. He complains daily of stomach aches. He loves yogurt, ice cream, and other milk containing foods. How is it possible to not be allergic to milk but to be allergic to casein. His sister also just tested positive to a wheat allergy. Thanks for any help in understanding this.

From my experience with allergies (my son is allergic to milk, eggs and nuts..7 yrs old) casein is a protein in milk so what you were told might be a misnomer...anything that has casein in it he needs to avoid. Even with just a stomach ache, he his having a reaction to it. I would have him not eat anythign that contains milk just to be safe...there are LOTS of alternatives to regular ice cream...try tofutti products and check the health sections of grocery stores, there are lots of allergen free foods including fudge pops and pints of ice cream that are really good, Ive tried them, my favorite is choc chip cookie dough :)

My daughter has this cheese/casein allergy. Her doctor removed her Gall Bladder, as it was believed to be the problem. She should have seen an Endocrinologist prior to surgery but it was not suggested to her and the surgery was performed anyway. Some doctors are out of control and need to be horse whipped. See an Endocrinologist and be safe and sure about your diagnosis before proceeding.
