Will be going in soon for J-tube placement

I saw my GI again today and after another 4 lb loss and continued hell for me he refered me to a surgeon to have the J-tube and either a PICC line or port (hoping for the port). I do intend to talk to the surgeon about either going with a G-J or a seperate G just so that I can drain my stomach. I know that is one of my GI's biggest concerns is keeping me out of the ER but on the days when I can't throw up I have no option but to go in so I am hoping for something to add relief on that end as well.

I honestly thought I was prepared for this. I have 2 boys with tubes so this is not unfamiliar territory for me, but the idea vs reality is getting to me a bit. I just hope that we can do this sooner rather than later because even though surgery flips me out I can't keep going like I am either.

At first my GI was set on having a gastric pacer placed but when he got more info he found that they will not even concider it an option for at least another year. In a way good because I was not sure I was ready to go that route but it also is something I have to wait for if the tube doesn't help a lot.

Any experiance on adult recovery from tube placement and effectiveness? I know my boys bounced right back but I don't have the stamina or health they did.

momlwt,
I have gastroparesis and had my first J-G tube placed in July,07. I had a gastric pacer placed in Feb. 08. Who told you, you would have to wait a year before a pacer could be placed? I have had to have my J-G tube replaced 4 times due to vomitting and the tube getting twisted up in my colon. I love my J-G tube because if I eat something that makes me sick or two much of it, I can open up my G tube and drain some of it out. (It doesn't work every time)I do my feeding through my J tube.
