Vitamins and not absorbing???

0 Recommendations

Hi, I just have a question for everyone... seems like everytime I post I have a question lol.. well anyways,
I have been taking a liquid prenatal vitamin and for about 3-4 weeks I have been wondering why it looks like a pee out like a glowing yellow urine. I went to have my first OB appt and was embaressed to bring the urine cup to the nurse because it was soo flurecent yellow! Well, after that I looked up on line what it could be that is making my pee such a bright color... and the only thing I found was that it could be dehydration, which could be a lil bit of it.. but my pee is always that color... and I have been drinking alot of water. Or it could be the prenatal im taking but that also could mean that im just peeing it out and not all of it is getting absorbed. Thats what it said on the website. The only thing that makes me a little worried about that is... my baby needs the prenatal as much as i do... so what should i do? Im gunna be getting blood work to see if im getting enough of everything and to make sure im not malnurished.. but what do you guys think? Has anyone had this happen?
O and also my diet hasnt changed... well, I cant eat anything anymore so Im on boost, boost pudding and broths.. and water.
Thanks for reading and helping out!

Dehydration Pregnancy

First, congrats on your pregnancy & I hope that you are feeling well... & to answer your question, vitamin B is notorious for causing electric yellow urine!

I was taking vitamin B complex and I noticed my pee was bright yellow. (Electric Yellow) My PCP led me to believe that your body will excrete what it doesn't need. However I'm not sure that fact would hold true if you had an absorbtion issue. I had my doctor give me a B12 shot in August. She said it wouldn't hurt anything I would pee the excess out. I don't remember seeing any bright yellow pee with the shot. Seeing as you are pregnant (congrats!) you should always have everything checked to be safe.
Best of Luck to you!

Thank you both for replying.. I never noticed it and i use to take a regular liquid multi vitamin.. but maybe theres just more in the prenatal... Thank you for comforting my fears!! :) Im gunna be seeing the doc soon so Ill be getting things checked out then! Thank you both again!

I, too, usually have bright yellow urine. Usually, water-soluble vitamins are super-loaded in supplements, because you can't overdose on them, and you excrete what you don't use.
I wouldn't worry too much.

To much Vitamin C can do the same thing.

It could be due to dehydration but is most likely excess vitamins that you are excreting. The liquid should be absorbed readily even if you have a malabsorption problem. Liquids are more easily absorbed than the solids. Right now I am doing chewables and I think I am absorbing them for now if they ever get out of my esophagus. I just found out today I have no motility in my esophagus. That is why my chest hurts so much when I eat. I have a dilated esophagus from all of the food sitting in it. I guess liquids are on the horizon for me.

Thank you again for putting my fears at ease! I wasnt too worried but with being pregnant and worrying Im not getting everything the baby needs so I guess im just being a big worry wart right now lol.
Katbrow- im sorry to hear things are not going well with you! Ill be praying that things will get better for you! Your in my thoughts and prayers!

Hi Becky,

Vitamin B is huge on causing bright yellow urine. I take Super Complex vitamin B and it is sunny bright. Your body will release what is doesn't need when this is water soluble. Lipid soluble vitamins (A, D, E, and K) do not excrete in your urine.

And best wishes with your new little gift!

Becky

Hi SunshineBaby, congrats on your pregnacy!! I take liquid vitamins and yes it's okay, the vitamin B's do that to everyone's urine. So enjoy this time and blessing in your life. Warmest Wishes Gina

Its the vitamin and nothing to worry about. The B vitamins are the culprits. I take a multivitamin daily and for the first couple times I go, it is bright yellow and tones down by the end of the day. If you ever have to give your baby when it is here, vitamins you will notice it in the diaper too.

What a fun group. Where else can you talk about the color of your urine? As nursing students we were instructed to teach patients which of their meds might change the color of their urine so they wouldn't panic. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like a lot of patient teaching going on like it should be.

Lol, yea this is a funny group but a very helpful group! Is it suppose to smell like the vitamin too? jw Because it semlls so strong like the vitamin I take lol that it makes me gag... I hate taking it cuz it taste awful and smelling it later doesnt help with my nausea lol!
I ordered the vitamin online so I never knew it was suppose to happen... even on my other liquid multi... maybe theres more in the prenatal??? o well.. lol thanks for your help.. it means alot!
