Toddler with GP and Reflux

0 Recommendations

Our 19 month old has not been doing well with his pump running and all we can get him to take in by mouth is water and pedialyte. He has gone from 24 pounds to 22. We have no clear idea on how to feed him and what food he may or may not be able to eat. We have a big appointment coming up in a week with a GI doctor. We want to know if anyone else has a child this young with GP? How do you feed? How do you manage there diet? We are trying to avoid TPN again. What about the pacemakers for the stomach do babies have them? Any medication other then reglan we could try? Any advice on what to ask the doctor? Please advise

I am so sorry your child has this at such a young age. You have to essentially give him six small meals a day, I usually have about three to four tablespoons of any given thing at a time and since he is so young I would go on line and find recipes for baby food made from scratch. You can season them a little to make them more palliative then the store bought food. It is soft which is all he can have in small amounts divided into six meals a day. Applesauces, you could try some yogurt, hopefully he is not lactose intolerant. It is a high carbohydrate diet and be sure he gets proteins. Give him a chewable multivitamin, I take two a day because I get very little nutrition and that seems to keep me going. Since he is a child he would probably like the flintsone gummy vitamins. The pills would probably not dissolve and he would not get the vitamins from it by the time it got through. You can increase the amount you give him a little at a time but never give him how much you think a child with a normal digestion would eat. It is important to do the six small meals as this keeps the reflux down and make him more comfortable. If he is on Reglan watch or any signs of spasms he might have and I would consider stopping it as it can cause permanent spasms when taken over a long period of time. I had to stop mine as I started having spasms in my feet and continue to have them off and on though I have been off of it for months.

I pray that your child will begin to feel well again soon. It is important to make your own baby food recipes with fresh or frozen food as it won't have the many chemicals in it that the canned food has.

God bless you and may He give you peace in this time of seeking.

I don't have much to offer advice wise, I just wanted to say I'm so sorry your baby has GP. I pray you find the answers to the questions you are seeking and bless his little heart. Makes me feel bad for complaining about my issues with it at 40.....

Ok so. We've gotten my son to drink some applesauce and then for the second time he eat some. He is super fussy. Thanks for the advice and words of prayer.
