questions about surgery

0 Recommendations

Wednesday is my date to get my gallbladder out and I'm getting more nervous by the hour. So many questions.....I already have GP and deal with how to eat. So far..as far as I know I only have problems with my stomach. I know that with anesthesia, you have a delayed "awakening" of your digestive system. What are the odds of having a "simple gallbladder" surgery and ending up with more problems than I have? Are there things I need to talk to my anesthesiologist about? Questions to ask? I know the gallbladder has to come out and that they are betting that after a period of adjustment, my constant dirrhea/cramps/bloating/vomiting, will improve. I want to believe they will and am looking forward to the surgery just for that reason. I guess I need some reassurance at this point but I want to be informed when I talk to the anesthiologist. Hope someone can provide some input from experience. Thanks everyone.

Surgery Pain Heart attack

Good luck, Mama J. The soonest you can get up and walk around the best it will be for getting your "post-anesthesia" gut working. And probably stick to clear liquids so your bowel can rest a little. Let us know how everything goes!

Have had this surgery...not too bad! I would tell the anesthiologist if you suffer from vomitting because the anestheia makes me puke anyways so they always give me drugs so that I do not throw up for 24 hours. The gas pain in the belly from the surgery can really mess with your gut - they blow air into your belly during surgery and then the air is absorbed into your body, but the pains can be sharp - sharper than gut pain and mine felt like a heart attack - kinda like gallbladder pain, really! So beware of that...it did take several days for a bowel movement but your doc should tell you how long you can go - I increased my fiber and took laxatives and that helped.

Good luck! I felt so much better after surgery - I hope you do too!

Snowing here so we are leaving early and staying in a hotel at the hospital tonight, Thanks for the input and your prayers. Never been nervous about a surgery but now that I have GP....I have a little concern this time. I'll stay with the liquids for 2-3 days and try to get up and moving asap. I usually bounce back from surgeries very quickly so I'm not concerned with the pain part....just getting things on the inside moving. My ride will be here in a minute so you all have a great day ..... luv u all
