Probiotics

Hi everyone - I know that I have seen reference to probiotic use in a number of discussions over the past few months... Does anyone use VSL #3? I would appreciate any information. My younger sister encouraging me to try it. Any thoughts would be welcomed.

Hi Tracie,

My daughter was diagnosed with Chrons Disease 5 years ago and the GI doctor told her she would have to have part of her colon removed within a year. Well it has been 5 years now and she still has her colon because I got her to start taking Probiotics. They are great for anyone who has GP like I do and any motility dysfunction of the body.

There are so many products of Probiotics out there that are good, My daughter is on Garden of Life she takes 5 a day. I take 2 a day. As I am good to keep that in me. They are abit expensive but worth the money for sure. Hope that helps.

Hi Tracie-
I am not familiar with VSL #3 probiotics, but it was recommended to me by my dietitian to take Optima Primadophilis which has 35 billion CFU. You need to keep it refrigerated and you only have to take one pill a day. I hope that helps-Mariann :-))

I need to take note here. Yes probiotics are good for us. My husband and I talk about it. I've used some acidophilis quite often but when I run out it takes a whie to catch back up.

Taking the oral erythromycin, I have to worry about yeast. Candida grows easily in my system. But I like this oral antibiotic.

Probiotics is a good thing.

What is vsl-#3?

Hello,

I agree that probiotics do help. I had started with the mild liquid form of Dan Active twice a day. I was unable to take regular food for many months. Since it was a liquid form it seemed to settle better with my stomach and calmed the nausea and the hunger. Later, I just added a yogurt once a day. It took many months, but now I am able to eat small meals and tolerate it.
I am still undergoing testing at U of P. Whatever attacked my system seems to be giving in to more "normal" digestion and my bowels are returning to a new normal. I found that the less meds I used the better I felt. Juicing was great for me too.

I do take VSL #3 and it helps me out a TON! I really like it and it makes my slow motility speed up a bit - always giving me some movement. You do have to keep it refrigerated and since I am lactose intollerant and can't mix it with yogurt, I mix it with Propel or Gatorade water. It is expensive, but it works for me and moves my bowels nicely. You should definitely try it - I take a packet each day.
