Need help reversing my eating habits

Hi, all.
Since my GP diagnosis about six weeks ago, I've been doing pretty well with the new diet. I haven't intentionally eaten any forbidden foods, although the other day when my husband made me a sandwich on kaiser roll, I discovered after two bites that the roll had sesame seeds. Yikes!

HOWEVER, for nearly my whole life I have skipped breakfast, often not eating until 2 p.m. I behaved very well for the first few weeks with the GP, now I find that I cannot force myself to eat in the morning, not even a smoothie or nutritional supplement.

Any suggestions? Thanks ever so much.

Hi Leslie. I really like your user name - I want a kugel too!!

I think that you should not force yourself to eat / drink if your body is telling you 'no'. My advice would be to eat / drink something when you're hungry. If your stomach is still full from the last thing you ate, there is no room for anything new anyway. Do you get hungry? Are you taking anything to help your stomach empty, so you can take in more? Remember to eat small amounts at a time so it can empty quicker. Eating too much at once will slow things way down. Lately I have been eating just one slice of american cheese as a snack. Then in a few hours I'm hungry again and I eat a Special K bar. Then later, an Ensure. And so it goes...

Perhaps just a half cup of juice or something in the morning--enough to start anything that might be going on in your stomach, not enough to make you sick.
I have learned that I can't eat some days. Other days, I can eat almost a normal-size meal at night, if I have stuck with my liquid diet all day.
You could even buy those chewy chocolate calcium supplements, get a few calories, and call it healthy.
Or suck on hard candy.
Your blood sugar is low in the morning. Elevating it a little bit might help to create some appetite.
I'm not hungry for my first meal, but I'm ready for my second. It's pretty much a job after that.

Even if I don't want to eat, I try to get my liquid calcium Vit. D. Magnesium supplement first thing of a morning, then try for some water with electrolyte and maybe spoonfull or two of some canned pumpkin. (something else could be subsititued for the canned pumpkin, I mix LOTS of pumpkin pie spice in and it seems to settle my stomach a bit)

At the moment, because of bacterial overgrowth, even this is very difficult. Can't wait for that stupid port for IV antibiotics to go in!

I do eat small amounts and I do get hungry sometimes, which I consider a huge success. I'm not taking anything at this point to empty my stomach. Still on the first 6 weeks of erythromycin, with a GI appt. set for Nov. 16, my first follow-up since the diagnosis.

Often I can't eat, so I rely on Carnation VHC, even though I know it's supposed to "supplement" other food, not replace it.

I'll check in after seeing the doc. Thanks!

Thanks, teacher. Good point about jump-starting the blood sugar in the morning. Maybe a few sips of a Carnation? It's worth a try. I'll keep you posted!

I love pumpkin! I've been microwaving yams lately but never considered canned pumpkin. I will definitely try that (with spice). Bacterial overgrowth--I know it well. I keep thinking we should write a musical comedy about this. I must post what I've already written. Maybe tomorrow. I've already spent the entire day at the computer going back and forth from email to Facebook, email to Facebook. When there's nothing new, I clean out my old email files. Now there's a mother lode of history, healthwise and otherwise!
