Hi everyone-
Has anyone heard of this gadget? I just watched an infomercial about it and it sounds interesting. You can see more info. about it @: myhealthmaster.com. It looks like a heavy duty blender (has a big motor) and supposedly it pulverizes anything you put into it. He was putting carrots, greens, apples, etc. and making smoothies, soups, etc. I was wondering if it would allow those of us with GP to digest these raw foods since it's pulverized? With juicing, you only get the juice of the fruit or veggie and not the pulp where a lot of the nutrients are and fiber.

It's pretty pricey @ $150 but....if we can eat the food it produces, it might be worth it! They even demonstrated putting asphalt in it and it turned it into a powder! I don't think I'd want to try that, as that might be TOO much roughage :-)).

Love to hear if anyone has heard of this or tried it. It might be another way that we can eat more healthier foods. I worry about the lack of fiber in our diets and that causing other issues down the road.

Hope everyone is having a good day today. Thank you! Mphotographer

I've never heard of it, but I will check it out. It sounds good worth trying to me.

Hi Carebear-Please let us know if you get one and if you can tolerate the food it produces! I can't afford it right now, but wanted to know if anyone else had bought one. Happy stomach day to everyone-Mphotographer

Actually, we would all like to know if this works. It is usually desperation that drives me to appliances (Magic Bullet, blender, Soy Quick). It would be nice to know someone who has tried it. Lack of fiber contributes to aging and makes it hard to control cholesterol, which puts a whole other set of limitations on diet.
Do you happen to know if it contributes to an increase in blood pressure? Mine is usually low, but is running high now.

I have never heard of this product until I saw a live demonstration of this yesterday at Costco's Wholesale. The product does exactly what they say can be done and it really is tasty!! My children (7 and 8) even enjoyed it!! . I was debating on making the purchase ($329) but thought I would wait until I read some reviews. Now I am watching the informercial on TV and I couldn't resist so I just ordered it for $200. What a bargain!

Wow, thanks for the post Reds2!! Please, please let us all know when you get it and if you are able to tolerate the fiber. Do you have GP? This is exciting. I thought it looked good!!! Thanks again for posting. We will all be anxiously awaiting your posts....and if it works for you, as far as getting some recipes :-)). Hope today was a good stomach day for you-Mphotographer

I bought one of these machines and I LOVE IT. I had previously used a Jack LaLanne and a Champion Juicer but didn't like losing all the pulp (and fiber). Now I get all of the fruit and/or vegetable. Plus you use way less fruit and vegetables because you get all of it.

I would highly recommend it.

I ordered it and received it in about a week but my sister had to wait a little longer.

Hi Susie525-
Thanks for reporting how you like the Health Master! I am so glad you love it. How is it on your stomach, getting all the pulp and fiber? I was just thinking about you the other day so I am glad you posted. I may have to try this one...or a Vita-Mix. NinaBean: You make some good points, but....the Health Master is only $150 vs. $300. I am glad the Vita-Mix has worked for your daughter without problems. Mphotographer

mphotog--again you've helped! Thank you for pointing this product out. I just ordered the Vitamix because it has a bag to make soy and nut milks. The juicer had upset me, too, by using up so many resources and discarding 3/4 of them. Thank you for restoring the psych serenity of respecting land and labor of of farming and plantlife!!!!

You are welcome Cheshl! Yes, I too believe in using the "whole food" and hopefully we can tolerate the whole food. Does anyone know of any research about having GP and being able to tolerate the fiber when using these products (i.e. Vitamix, Health Master, etc.), even though it's in liquid form? It seems to me that since it's liquid, it wouldn't sit in our stomachs and would be tolerated. Plus give us more nutrition-thanks for your sweet note Cheshl. So many people have helped me on this site, that I am glad I was able to help someone else-

I bought Montel HealthMaster. It has arrived. I am exceedingly happy with what it does. The improvements in dietary selections has quadrupled. Prepared foods available to me skyrocketed. The foods I buy last twice as long.

I highly recommend this machine for diet and nutritionally rich (fiber and vitamins) food preparation.

The results are good and get better as I learn!

(male, 65, post colon cancer removal, alive and on my feet after 8 months) I CAN and U CAN.

Cancer indications:
Lowered energy level, significant weight drops (often more than 10 lbs per month), suppressed bowel movements, diahreah, blood in stools, urinary tract infections, large desire for water and liquids, hearing deviations, and more. See a doctor.

My complaint list:
1) It took Healthmaster six weeks to arrive even with the expedited delivery choice. Order tracking was next to impossible and referred purchasers to what I believe to be a Spanish help point at which all eMail is forced to be dumped by impossible spam filter software. Similaryly, there is no US address or phone to make an inquiry through. If you get tired of waiting, get in contact with your credit card unit and cancel all charges as pertains to the order.

2) It cost more that advertised. Same with NuWave oven which is also a very useful aid.

3) There is no accessory for simple food processing by slicing. Dig out your knife sets.

4) Recipe's are usually time sensitive and have to be adjusted according to food thickness, temperature, etc.

5) Recipe's are occasionally NOT common english terms and there is no concordance.

6) I haven't succeeded in making hot soups and the soup recipe's provided don't have my personal appetite appeal. Where is chicken soup? Where is bone soup. What about noodles? Use a hotplate.

Sometimes I need an evening to ponder before I edit or add to material that I have presented. I would like to add 5 items as thought provokers. Do your own research.

1) HealthMaster recipe's favor soy milk over whole milk. I think there is an unstated reason to pay special attention to this item.

Research performed in dairy states in the US attempted to follow trends in longevity differences between Asian/Pacific populations and US. They used standard test procedures and test animals. Being in a dairy region, the main source of protein used in the tests was whole milk.

The trend showed little if any differences between US and Asian longevity until animal protein input (primarily whole milk) became more than 20% of the total protein input. at various points above the 20% cancerous internal sores began to occur. Even more interesting, as the animal protein (milk) amounts decreased, the cancer disappeared.

Similar trends began to show up in heart problems and diabetes.

2) HealthMaster recipe's prefer sugar substitutes. Grocery store crystalized sugar increases acidity in the intestines, stomach, and bowels. This acidic medium promotes growth of bad cultures. Probiotics have not appeared to be strong enough to counter this problem and lose out over time. A better solution is sugar substitutes. Honey tops the list. Xylitol is good. Stevia may be ok. Other substitutes form carcinogenic compounds when used for baking when temperature start rising over 300 degrees.

3) Exercise. Those little spring squeeze things at the health equipment shop can be used to drop blood pressure 15 to 20 points. The rubbery balls with beans inside work just about as well. When measuring blood pressure and recording, look at the blood pressure differences between systolic and diastolic. This is sometimes called pulse pressure. 40 is a very good number. Pulse pressure is an indicator of the health of arterys and their ability to return to normal when pushed under exertion.

4) Cholesterol. Statistically, older persons die more frequently WITH low cholesterol than with high cholesterol. I don't know about this one except that the recommended limits are total should not exceed 200 and HDL should be in the range of 50. The rest is LDL and triglycerides.

5) Salt. Low salt, low sugar, use a diabetic profile as an example, will get you farther down the road. Salt is a slow buildup article not measurable in an annum mode. It begins when children come off babyfood and bottles. It may be possible to reduce retained salt gently by diet, exercise, and hot tubs. As an example of diet change, Cilantro and parsley flush heavy metals. EDTA is the doctor's office medication and works best when injected by IV.

The Montel HealthMaster is a rare pleasure in assisting me to keep to flavorful dieting.

Do your own research. You have web access.

Hi gaj-
Thanks for your post. I am glad that you are a cancer surviver. Do you also have GP or a motility disorder? I just wondered how the Health Master is for those of us with motility disorders. Interesting that your Master took so long to arrive-thanks for the tips!

By the way, I used to drink soy milk until I read about the contraindications....seems to be contraindications for everything you ingest these days :-)). And yes-I do a lot of research on the Internet, but....that can be dangerous too unless you are getting your info. from reputable sources. I wish you the best of health.
Mphotographer

I try to verify information via:

WebMD
Mayo Clinic Web Site White Papers available to the public.
Web search on the particular product.

Buyer complaints SOMETIMES include specific reasons for a complaint. Those I double check and they can make very good guide lines. I chose NuWave over FlavorWave.

I ALWAYS discuss what I find out with my Doctor. He seldom gives more than tacit approval because studies and published papers are few and hard to find.
The Drug companies keep him flooded with samples and literature on their product recommendations.

In the end, it is always MY choice and my doctor does argue with me. Lab tests on a regular basis build statistics about trends and we both jump on those reports to continue or alter treatment protocols. I always follow the Doctor's ordered protocol. He can't help me with out having the statistical trends that cage my treatment response.

I have more experience in what is called "Alternatives" and I keep them openly on the table at Doctor appointments. When I try something new or have problems with a prescription, I vary it as a lone unit and judge it on good/bad effects on my body. The numbers don't lie. I stick with good trends and have my Doctor's approval to suspend almost all of the original prescriptions. They were all blood thiners anyway and were very difficult to track for effects on me.

My last blood pressure reading, at and by the Doctor's office personnel, was 102/78 or a pulse pressure of 24. The starting point in the hospital in January was 190/160. I find that I can track and control arterial blood pressure with simple techniques and very little prescription medication (NOW).

About the dangers of blindly trying things that are heard about, most people try to grab off-the-shelf pill bottles at their local herbal store. If the store is run by a licensed pharmacist and the pharmacist will assist, it usually turns out ok.

The stores not run by registered personnel usually practice the maxim that more is better. Most of those pill bottles have dosage amounts that may be 10 times the recommended dose and the result is sour and upset stomachs.

Yeah, do check out new suggestions. It's up to the buyer to beware.

Now, motility/ I had the symptoms but not a diagnosable disease. Nothing I ordered tasted like the items as I remembered them. (taste). There was a driving need for fluids to wash my throat. I experience heavy mucus throat and upper chest lining. Any bread type food formed plaster on the esphogasus walls. Many things including "horse pills" stuck in my throat and I couldn't swallow them. All food intakes were in very small amounts. Stomach upset ended after the colon sectioning surgery.

Food process by HealthMaster has not presented any GI or Motility distress for me. You would have to try for yourself to make a personal decision.

Exercise, diet, and variety slowly reversed my health situation. At the time I did not have a HealthMaster and the process was a time eater.

Every day I grow stonger and have a better outlook.

My best wishes for you and yours. It all gets better or reaches a don't care state. I find that a comfort, don't dwell on it, and am not despondent or have large expectations. A little improvement a day builds to big successes.

Hi gaj-
I too use WebMD and Mayo clinic for research. I am so glad that your stomach issues ceased after your colon surgery-that's great! And that's also great that you have been able to keep your BP down. I too believe in alternative treatments and always run things by my DO and/or GI. I feel lucky that the only RX drug I have to take currently is Zantac.

It's nice to hear someone growing stronger every day and having a better outlook. I feel the same way! This has been the first summer in 3 years that I have not had a major medical issue (lots of surgeries) and it's been so nice. I feel very fortunate when I read posts from others on this site that struggle with major symptoms on a daily basis with no end in sight.

My best wishes to you too and I hope you continue to get stronger and feel better-Mphotographer

I AM NOT A MEDICAL TECHICIAN OR DOCTOR. Keep your doctor in the loop and do your own homework. I do have some unique experiences with herbals and "alternatives". You can find most of the topics below presented in JAMA articles.
================================================

Most people I talk to believe that Cholesterol focus is not the major CHF(Chronic heart failure) risk. EDTA IV treatments are VERY expensive doctor or hospital treatment series for cholesterol. A critical level test may be a "neck" blood pressure test if mental awareness is a concern. I have been told that this stuff is like fruit rollups in the areterial tubes. Removal from carotids can make immediate mental health improvements.

Anyway (yes I talk too much) the current drug of choice in hospitals and by doctors for cholesterol control is Symvastatin and an almost 100% protocol of blood thinners. I am out of the blood thinner protocol and do not wish to revisit there. There is a herbal called Nattokinase that has been compared as 10 times more effective than any statin drug. BUT, I use a protocol that is gentler and very sure.

Lecithin granules are a byproduct of Soy bean processing and are an extraordinary emulsifier. I believe that almost all bake shops use it in preparing dough. I have been told that Lecithin (1 or 2 Tbsp daily) spread over cereal, salads, mixed in shakes, smoothies, etc. simply dissolves cholesterol in arteries and waste systems flush it from the body.

Everyone needs some basic amounts of cholesterol. This is the tar that plugs arterial cracks and slows internal arterial bleeding. The numbers I last read are that total cholesterol should be 200 or less and HDL should be 50 or greater. I didn't make the suggestion.

Salt (sea salt is my choice) is an electrolyte. Measurable benefits exceed measurable problems. An alternative would be sport drinks but, please, avoid the plastic bottles. Chemicals released from the plastics can and are often instant diabetes starting points.

Ok, I use an easy protocol for arterial health. I also use Polycosinol (an alcohol derived from sugar cane processing). This came to my attention as an "outside the heart" cleaner for the brown fat that accumulates around hearts and becomes an indicator for bypass surgeries.

I also take small to moderate amounts of CoQ10. It comes in butter/nut wafers (400 mg) by Vitaline and "Gummy Bears" (30 mg) at CVS pharmacies. Statin drugs destroy CoQ10 which my body needs to form new organ tissue (including heart muscle). The reduction in CoQ10 also has a backlash effect on Thyroid participation. I do not use statin drugs. I do not use low dose aspirin protocols. I do use "Real" chocolate as an alternative to aspirin and sometimes, willow bark lining. I do use "Real" cinnamon for sugar reaction modification. These things came to my attention because I had a need for improve endurance during competition years.

Even small amounts of exercise consisting of repetitions instead of resistance is amazingly effective in facilitating protocols for good general and heart health.

For Bone density health, plain old butter, not substitues or vegetable oils, seems to do it for me. I like "bone" soup stock to repair joint cartilage. This approach (and zinc) are pretty good counters for Macular degeneration problems and heart health is improved where aspirin protocols put many users at stoke risks.

Vitamins are a weak chemo. "Ensure" and "Boost" liquid drinks and "Ovaltine" are my favorites.

Sorry, I got a long way off topic. Motility disorder was the question. Probiotics don't seem to have the strength to counter symptoms or affect early/late dumping cycles. Nature provided us with a very good probiotic that can be made at home. Recipe's are on the web. Its called "beer" and specifically, ginger beer. This is an off the shelf liquid drink that runs about $1.25 per 10 oz bottle here in North Texas. Some brands taste good and some require time to accomodate. Pepsi or Coke in quantity runs about $.25 per can here. I am steadily losing desires for colas and finding fruit drinks and lemonade are improving in attraction.

Zeroing in on the question about particulate matter as a source of digestion problems, well, the real question is what particulate matter? There are firm studies that indicate "VEGETABLE" matter can be devastating. Fruit particulates haven't shared this distinction. Particle size and volume can be controlled. Reducing volume of vegetable fiber intake until a tolerance level is achieved can be measurable and immediate relief. Tools (yes, such as HealthMaster) are effective at controling particle sizes. Stainless steel strainers are useful to make minor seperations between fluids and particulates. I find that hot sauces actually make ingestion easier and more pleasant for me. Not everyone will agree.

Please take a look at some of my reponses to mphotographer at the end of this thread. There could be something useful there.

OK--I am now on so many supplements that I need to be careful what I add, as some interfere with absorption of medications and nutrients.
I did look up slippery elm. Did you know it interferes with the absorption of some nutrients? I decided to go with the ginger tea in small amounts. Some people report cramping with overuse, but if I brew it and take only a half or quarter serving, it might help digestion without the undesired side effects.
Peppermint supplements are also supposed to be helpful in a similar way.
Since I am already on paprika, I hesitate to add any more herbs or spices as "supplements", but I might be up to a small amount of ginger tea.
I, too, have found most medications less useful than natural remedies.
That being said, I am also at the point where I am learning to live with this and not cure it. I'm just looking for ways to be more comfortable.

No, I did NOT know that slippery elm can interfere with absorption of some nutrients? Could you possibly copy and paste the research that you found? Wow...that is not good as it really has helped my bowels. But...maybe the Benefiber will take the place of the tea. Thanks so much for the tip! I hear you about just looking for ways to become more comfortable-Mphotographer

As an outsider looking in, but an outsider who has gone through the same confusion and lack of comfort about the supplement/pill regimens, you might test the value of the items you are ingesting. My personal rule has been to never add or remove more that 1 item at a time from the working protocol and I always review the current regimen with my doctor at appointments. That rule includes Doctor prescriptions. We do argue on occassions but we both give focus to the numbers.

A weight scale and a Blood Pressure cuff are the mandatory aids to track results of diet and protocol changes. If this is out of reach, BP readout equipment is available at almost every pharmacy and is free for public use. Weight scales are lying around everywhere.

In this game, less is better, fewer is best, avoiding duplicate purposes is sublime. Be defensive. Use your defending warriors (the health technicians and your family). They have 1 overriding purpose and that is your well being. Accept this but follow the numbers - they won't lie to you or be mistaken about progress.

To test regimen items, take one (1) item out of the mix. Keep weight and blood pressure records for at least 3 days. If no negative results occur, move it to the side for a while. Try this procedure, reducing by moving to the side, with each item in your regimen. Use the BP and Weight numbers to exclude items that may well be debillitating. When you get down to a 4 or 5 item regimen and it is exclusive of blood thinners, stick with that list for at least a week.

Now how do you feel and are you confident of the value of the selection that remains? Its time for a review with your doctor.

Hey, my granddaughter Kim in the Tulsa area is studying to be a teacher. You have my wishes for your good health and steady recovery.

its time to shut up and sign off. Good fortune must go with you.

I wouldn't be surprised if slippery elm interfered with absorption since it coats intestines.

Also, I wanted to let you know, I'm going to borrow the Vita-mix machine from my mom. I'll let you know how I like it. She raves about the quality and functionality.

Allie

Thanks Allie-Love to hear how you like the Vita-mix! And thanks gaj, for the "well wishes"-Mphotographer
