Have you tried Marinol??

0 Recommendations

I was prescribed Marinol from my GI doc yesterday. Before I take the pills I wanted to ask if anyone took it.
Did anyone take it? Has anyone had bad reactions/good reactions? How did it make you feel?

I'm nervous of taking it because it is medical marijuana..well the active ingredient in marijuana and i've never done anything like that before.

I'm on Marinol. I try to save it for when things are really bad. I personaly don't have any side effects, but I know some people have said it can make them feel a little strange. It might make you dizzy. It will probably make you sleepy too. Chances are you will get the munchies from it. I hope it helps. Let us know how it goes. Was the doctor that gave it to you the new one you were going to see?

I take Marinol too. I'm like Charity though and save it for just really bad times mainly because I want to have something to fall back on and I'm afraid if I take it all the time I'll get where it doesn't help much.
It does help me but it makes me feel strange. I know if I take it that I need to be able to pretty much go into "hibernation" until it wears off some. It makes me a little dizzy but mostly it just messes with my ability to think...like I have trouble completing my thoughts and when talking I am likely to stop in the middle of a sentence and not remember even what the conversation is about. It also make me hungry...the problem with that is you have to remember just because you are suddenly hungry doesn't mean your stomach is ready to handle any food...so take it easy if you try to eat something and don't overdo it or you will make yourself sick all over again.
But, I personally find all these things are manageable and much better than the severe nausea and vomiting and am happy to put up with them occasionally to get some much needed relief.
By the way...I felt a little strange at first just with the thought of taking a "marijuana pill" too but realized that I was being silly and if it was legal and prescribed by a doctor that there is nothing wrong with it.
You might want to at least give it a try...I assume they are starting you on a very small dose of it? I think I started on a 2.5 mg pill and was gradually increased.
Good luck,
Judy

I was taking it for a while, but it really left me very tired and spaced out. These side effects were not worth the benefits I was getting. I was able to feel less nausted and more hungry, but often I would eat only to still have the vomiting because of the gastroparesis. So, it does make you feel better, but it won't take care of the GP. I tolerate it ok, but the side effects were not worth it while I'm trying to go to school.

Hope this helps,
Jen

can someone please answer a few thigs for me. where would you get marinol if it is not legal. i have GP and te nausea some days is so bad. i have a gastro doctor that diognosed me and said the only meds were raglan (i am not sure of the spelling) but said the side effects are really serious. he then told me about domperidome. but cant et it in the US I would apppreciate any info about marinol for those really bad days
paryers to all

Marinol is legal. I got it from my local (small) pharmacy. You need to have a doctor who knows about it and prescribes it. I saw 5 GI doc's before I found one who actually knew about the drug and used it on his patients.

Maybe try going to a new doctor? There are many things besides reglan and domperidome that you can try like zofran promethazine scopolamine patch erythromycin (sorry for bad spelling).
