GJ tube for my son

0 Recommendations

I have a question for anyone doing GJ feeds with their little one. We just started GJ tube feedings two days ago with my 14 month old son. The tubing is so long from the bag to his stomach and there is so much slack in his bed. Last night, I went in to find the tube almost wrapped around his neck and it was in his mouth. Now I'm scared to death to do the night feeds. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to give less slack without risking the G-tube coming out of place? Thanks!

Kari,
Are his feeds in a backpack or on a pole? During the day I have my feeds in a backpack and put them on a pole at night. If it is on a pole maybe you could raise the pole a little higher so there is more distance between the pump and you son so the tubing wouldn't slack as much or tape the extra tubing up to the pole. Unless he jerks it really hard I don't think it will pull his tube out of place, and if it starts to pull to hard he will probably get uncomfertable and won't go farther because it is pulling. I hope you can find something to work. I know how hard it can be to sleep while attached to something, so I hope you can find a way to keep him from getting hurt.

Hi,

I know this is an old posting but I have two-year old on TPN and J-feeds who is hooked up at night. If you're still looking for suggestions about this then I'm happy to share our experiences.

Hope your son is doing well!

My daughter is also on feeds, and what we do is keep her in a onesie, and then button the onesie around the tubing. Hope that helps!

Maybe some of the initial worries have faded by now since its been about six months. I'd like to know how your son is getting along. I had the same concerns with my daughter and also worried about her throwing up during the night and choking on it or rolling in it. We decided to only feed during the daytime which makes her schedule a little less convient for me but at least I can sleep at night.

Also we switched from the regular Kangaroo to a Kangaroo joey pump which is designed to be portable. It's so wonderful especially for walks outside. The old one attached to the pole beeped all the time but my portable one can be upside down or whatever its so much nicer. I can actually take her to watch her dad play softball without turning her food off because of the pump's fickelness.
