Getting daughter set up on TPN

WOW what a difference a prayer can make. When I prayed last night I asked the Lord for wisdom in how to help Shea with her stomach issues, and what to do about our upcoming trip to Houston.

By 9:30 this morning I had a phone call from our insurance's case manager that was assigned to help us with Shea's various health issues. She called to check on Shea and ask how her IV feedings were going. Well, that was all it took to get her in motion, she said it was just a lack of knowledge on the doctors part for not knowing what was available. She was not pleased that Shea had been sent home with no nutritional support and with her next Gastro appt. not being until Sept 3rd!

We now have an appointment for tomorrow evening to get her 'all set up' on IV feedings. They already have the health care agency in place, I have spoken with them several times, I have had a call from their dietician and she is working on getting things all ready for Shea. This is a national company, and they will be putting their Houston office on notice that we will be in the area in the event we have any problems. The IV supplements have to be kept cold so they will 'ship' what she needs to Houston and have it at the hotel for us when we get there!

I can not get over how fast all this is moving, but once the Lord sets things in motion WOW!

I will update tomorrow night or maybe Friday after we get educated in all this. They said the first consult can take 3-4 hours. And 'the more the merrier' anyone that Shea stays with should be briefed on all this as well. So I called m y mother and she is going to come up tomorrow and be here to sit in on the learning session with Shea and I.

Hope all is well with everyone.

Hi LQ,

I am so happy to hear this great news. Once I started TPN I began feeling so much better. I hope it is the same for Shea. If you have any questions about TPN please feel free to message me. Tell Shea to hang in there and know that she is not alone. Good luck getting things rolling.

Peace and blessings,
Jen

LQ,

You will see such a difference in your daughter once she gets on the TPN. It is a life saver and I have been so grateful to have it. It has not only put weight on me but it has given me more strength just having some stable nutrition. I have only been on TPN for about 7 weeks now but it works fast.

The first night I was being taught how to use the TPN it was abit overwhelming but after that it came easy and now takes no time to get set up for it.

I know this will help Shea alot. I will being praying for you both. Keep us posted on how it goes.

LQ - God is Good! And prayer does work. Glad to hear that "things" are starting to fall into place. I agree with whisper, it may seem a little overwhelming when they first come to teach you... remember to ask questions & clarify everything that is why they are there.

I will keep you & your family in prayer.

That's great, LQ! I'm glad that everything is coming together. Thank God for that woman at the insurance company! The TPN is overwhelming at first, but you should be fine. Just make sure everything is sterile. I always felt much better when I was on TPN, but I could never stay on it long due to multiple complications I would develop from the line. Shea will look much better, will gain weight, and her hair and nails will look better too! But make sure you look into a feeding tube as well. You want to use that if you can. Good luck!
