ERYTHROMYCIN

0 Recommendations

I am about to take the last medicine that I haven't tried that specifically works for gastroparesis.
ERYTHROMYCIN...any good news going on this that someone has had with this medicine or has anyone had side effects, mild or very bad from this medicine?

I will start taking it tomorrow night so I am just wondering if someone could let me know what to expect if anything?!

Thanks, this really is the only other option before I am considered for a pacer :(

ktmorong,

I have taken Erythromycin and it did absolutely nothing. I was given it by mouth and it did absolutely nothing. It was very ineffective. I hope that you have success with it.

Hi ktmorong

Have you tried botox yet? I know some who have been helped by that. That's my next step. It isn't as invasive as the pacer.

I have been taking the domperidone. It really hasn't allowed me to eat more, but be able to tolerate what I was eating better.

Good luck,
Kimber

Yes..I have tried EVERYTHING but the pacer and this medicine that I am starting today.

Botox didn't work.

and some advice one of my doctors told me about these gastroparesis medicines:
They are probably going to give us more problems because what they are trying to do is fight and clear off anything in your stomach..what you should do to help the diarrhea is eat a couple of TSP or spoon fulls of yogurt (if you can) or some sort of food that is easy on your stomach an hour or a little less after taking your medicine.

Unfortunately I only lasted 2 full days of treatment on this medicine. It made me feel 10X worse and i would get worse as soon as I took this medicine.

I'm sorry the medicine didn't work for you. I'm really wondering how many people do have success with it ...it also made mine worse too when I took it.

kt,

I live in Maine as well (near Portland) and my daughter has been dealing with GP-like symptoms sicne Dec. Has tried Ertyhromycin but no luck. No other meds to date but she is starting up a ruond of testing to pin this down. If you like, e-mail me at charles.hebson@hotmail.com. I'd be interested in learning about your experiences with doctors in this area. Thanks and good luck.

Ertyhromycin made me 1000X worse then I was before I took it. I couldn't even move.

i'll email thank you!

my daughter actually had success with it. at the time she had only GP problems. Her stomach doesn't work at all...per the monametry study. i think she had success because at the time she only had stomch issues. it helped for about 3 months. then it stopped working. she could actually eat a little and wasn't only tube feed before.

we were lucky

I've been taking it with Prevasid for over 3 years. I suffer from chronic idiopathic intestinal pseudo-obstruction, and the combination has cut my symptoms in half. [This is the recommended treatment for my particular desease.] When I first started taking Erythromycin, I was already suffering from the "side effects" it causes. It took about a month before my symptom started to improve. This does not mean I am cured; I still suffer from intermittent chronic abdominal distension and motility problems.

I hope it works for you.
