we have not found it helpful for constipation. It helps for nausea and moving food down. I wish it helped for constipation but it has not yet. We have not had any bad side effects. Good luck!

Well not really constipated they think I have a slow transit. I go a little bit every day and it's very soft nothing hard it just wont come out sort of speak. Does it help with bloating.

K just read side effects on it and it says constipation but to me that don't make since it should cause the opposite. if it helps move the food through the intestines. Or am i looking at this wrong. Hockeymom

What's the differents between that and reglan? could some one help me with this one to. this stuff is so confusing to me. Hockeymom

Both reglan and domperidone are motility drugs. The latter sometimes prescribed to promote lactating in women. Reglan can cause permanent tremors and should not be taken daily, if at all, and only during emergencies. Domperidone does not have those side affects but is not approved in the US. You can however purchase it at a compound pharmacy with a prescription for gastroparesis from a gi/motility doctor. I will not take reglan. which was ineffective for me and domperidone has made a great improvement on my gp attacks and the quality of my life.
There's a lot to sort through to figure out what works for you. This is a good place to look for input.
My best

I'm picking mine up today. I just hope it helps with the bloating. And the pressure in the large intestines.

im just not sure if this is right for me after reading, I had a emptying study done a year ago and it said I had rapid emptying. my problem is after it hits the intestines it don't move I live on milk of magnesium but I just get full of fluid cause I don't empty all of it out. Does anyone have this problem. I don't know what the doctor was thinking putting me on this unless he thinks it's going to help the bloating not sure

I was on Reglan for years and switched because of the side effects. It can cause Parkinson's, permanent tremors and severe depression. I was put on Domperidone 2 yrs ago. It helps with the slow dismotility (or food going down), but as far as I know it is not to help with bloating. I have severe gastroparesis and have to watch what I eat to prevent the bloating. There are certain vegetables, etc that are known to cause bloating. You can check with a dietician or maybe go online. Milk of magnesia is a laxative which works faster that the stool softeners, etc. I was told to take probiotics and generic Miralax. I have also tried a prescription called Lactulose which does work, but can cause bloating like other stool softeners. They told me not to take laxatives because they are addicting to the lower intestines. So I am just putting all of this information together and deciding on my own cause it is my body. Domperidone can be purchased from Canada if your doctor faxes them a prescription and its MUCH cheaper!! Oh, they keep telling me to drink more water! Good luck!

Domperidone is not going to help the motility after the stomach.. I am currently on the max dose and I do have GP. I have found miralax works better than milk of mag.

Sisterdiane I agree on the laxatives but the doctors keep telling me no it won't do that cause its not a stimulate this is just adding water to the colon. Well I'm not picking the script up cause its not going to do me a bit of good.

Hi first time here in this group but was wondering if you could tell me maybe what pharmacy in Canada or website? I was on reglan for a couple years and also tried a few others with no relief and stopped because of side effects. I currently take 10mg of bisacodyl a day and still have to use suppositories daily to have partial bm's because of undigested food and what seems to be dry intestines. Thanks in advance

The compounding pharmacy we use is in New jersey and called Belvedere Pharmacy. They will ship anywhere.

What is the max dose of Domperidone? My daughter is on 20 mg 4x a day. We are not seeing a change. We see Dr T (Motilty Specialist in Mtn View, Ca) We have left 2 messages with his office in the past 2 weeks asking if we should bump up the Domperidone. He does not return our urgent calls. So I thought maybe you guys might know.

I am sorry but I dont know the answer. My son takes 10mg 3 times a day. Dealing with Doctors is soo frustrating. I wait all day holding my phone in my hand for them to return calls. The best are doctors who will allow you to email so you can ask that quick question. Beg for email. Try calling her general doctor and tell him/her to cal the motility doc to ask. Usually docs get back to other docs. Sorry for your frustration.

Mandaxmr does the miralax cause you to bloat more and how much do you take? Hockeymom

My doctor had me take something I shouldn't and it shut everything down. So I took Miralax three times a day for two days and it got every moving. I was taking 3 Phillips pills a day and they didn't help, liquid Phillips made me sick, If you are using Miralax everyday I would think once a day would be good. 3 times a day to get you started if you blocked up. I was so bloated when I went on Miralax it did help.

Thanks Lisamom, def something I will check into. I started selling supplements from home to give me some income until disability and found a great natural digestion cleanse and some aloe tea and got things moving without being bloated and hurting so i will do that again and hopefully the domperidone will help me move the food before i get clogged. You guys are awesome, strength in numbers! Good day

I took Domperidone for GP, but it helped on the constipation tremendously. It does have a nerve stimulate component to it. That's one of the reasons is works well for GP. Usually when you have a slow tract in your stomach, you have a slow intestinal tract. That is true in my case. It worked very well for the constipation. I'd take it again, but my doctor topped prescribing it to all of her patients when two older women in the Netherlands, who were part of a control group, died by heart attacks.

She was not worried that would happen to me, I'm much younger and am healthy, but she did not want to subject her practice to liability risk.

So now I'm on amitriptyline and Zophrsn for the nausea. Neither helps the constipation. I have to take enemas twice a week to go.

I was not aware that Domp was used for constipation as it is prescriped for me for nausea although it can help with the contracitlity of both stomach and intestines according to the Mayo Clinic Site. One thing my dr told me about for my constipation was a MOM pill. Its large but a pill and seems to work well. Good Luck. My plans are to use the UK site as I have heard more positive imput from there. Good Luck
