Hi C-townchic. Here is a link to a website that explains several different drugs for motility problems. I hope it will give you the answer you are looking for.

Thank- You for the info and God Bless Jeannine

Domperidone is a drug that has to be ordered from another country. I got mine from New Zealand.
It didn't work for me and caused me to have muscle spasm but I have read on this site that it works good for some people.
Reglan is a "nightmare" medicine for a lot of people. It caused Parkinson like symptoms in me.

Hi, there. I've been taking domperidone for several months now and it has worked miracles. I have some side effects with it, but at this point they aren't too bad compared to the alternative (not eating at all). I get mine through a compound pharmacy in the area, so I don't have to deal with ordering it from Canada or some other country (although that may be less expensive). I know it doesn't work for everyone, but it's worth asking your doctor about. Good luck! Let me know if I can answer any more questions about it.

Kate

I have been on it since December. I get domperidone from Canada. You can also get it from New Zealand without a prescription. It is also called motilium.

For me it helps me be able to take pills by mouth and I can also eat a little bit. It hasn't cured my gastroparesis, but being able to take pills and some food by mouth is definitely worth it.

I have generalized dystonia that was caused by reglan and compazine. The reason domperidone doesn't cause these awful neurological side effects like reglan is because it doesn't cross the blood brain barrier so it can't get into the brain.

I do have the hormonal side effects...my periods have stopped and I have started lactating due to the high prolactin levels. So far this isn't a problem and I haven't had other side effects besides the hormone issue.

Let me know if you have other questions.

Hi, I have been on domperidone for about 5 &1/2 years now! I was taking it 4 times a day but now I have a new consultant who like me is not keen on drugs for the sake of it. I now take it PRN (as required) during my bad times! I am still not 100% sure if it really does do any good though!!

I think that's a good price- at least from my limited experience. For me, it costs $67 or so for 60 10mg capsules and $87 for 60 20mg capsules. What is the strength of the domperidone you would be getting from Texas?

Like Jen, I am also having hormonal side effects. I haven't had my period for a few months now and I have started lactating. I also think it is affecting my mood a little bit (feeling like I have PMS all the time, which is not fun). That is the worst part. My gyn gave me Provera so that I would get a period (she doesn't want me to have one less than every other month), so I need to start that soon. Other than that, I have tried cutting back on the dose of domperidone to see if that helps, but I don't do as well on a lower dose (I went from 20mg twice a day to 20 mg once a day, and occassionally adding a 10mg capsule as needed [PRN]). Taking extra just once in a while isn't as effective as taking it regularly, though.

Maybe your doctor can recommend a way to get the medication that is easier than ordering from another country or another state, if that's inconvenient. Do you have a compound pharmacy nearby?

Good luck! Hope all this feedback helps.

Kate

This med. didn't do a thing for me and neither did reglan...good luck :)

Hi,
I don't know if you have already ordered it, but I was given the website inhousepharmacy.com from another member msmac. I ordered it yesterday. It cost $30 for 100 10mg tabs

Amy

Thank -you. I have not ordered it yet.

I was taking Dom for three months earlier this year. Didn't seem to do anything so I stopped taking it. Now my great GI MD would like to try it again since I've backed off the Oxycontin I've been taking for the abdominal pain (the Oxy didn't seem to help either). His thinking is that the Dom might work better this time since I won't have any pain meds slowing my GI tract.

We'll see.

I get it from inhousepharmacy.com as well.

Thanks for your input.I hope you have better luck than I did.Istopped my pain meds on my own for a month as I thought that might help.I truly hope ypu have better luck than I do.I have been taking amitizia no luck there.Good luck and God Bless.

Hi,
I tried Domperidoneit is supposed to stop the of vommitting and nausea it did not work for me but it does not nean it will not work on others, my son has used it when he travels and for him it does work.

I just stopped amitiza it has done nothng but make me worse.Sometimes I feel like a guinea pig.I am actually afraid that I may never get better

Hi,

Domperidone can be ordered from Inhouse Pharmacy without a prescription, and I found that they have the best prices.
I paid $80.00 for 600 pills, 10 mg each, shipping is included.
I was trying to enclose their website, it won't let me. If you want the link, write to me, and I'll be more than happy to send it to you.

Thanks, c-townchic. I don't know if the pain meds were all that helpful anyway. So far, after four weeks weaning off them, I feel just as badly now as I did on them. I'm hoping that without their gut-slowing influence, re-trying the Dom might do the trick. I have a Dom-using friend who is one of the lucky ones. She still must watch what she eats, but doesn't suffer so much.

A little backstory. I had pretty good luck with Zelnorm before it was pulled from the shelves, and my MD says we can jump through a few hoops to get it again for another try after giving Dom a second chance.

He had me try Erythromycin just after Thanksgiving, and that stuff was like a MIRACLE. I felt so good -- no pain, no nausea, living life, shopping, driving, and was able to enjoy the holidays for the first time after three years (though I still ate very carefully). I was even talking about working again! Then, just past Christmas, the Eryth suddenly stopped working (a typical thing). Heartbreaking.

Despite the constant pain and nausea I continue to "live" with, I'd still prefer to find a GI solution.

The pain management route will be my last resort.

That, or we'll move to Amsterdam for the legal cannabis. ;-)

I think this country should legalize cannabis as well it is less addictive than most of these pain meds with less side effects. This illness is something that docs and other people just don't understand.
