Digestive Enzymes... Digest Gold versus Zygest? Which ones's better

0 Recommendations

Hi, diagnosed with severe gastorparesis two weeks ago. I have been reading and hearing about how digestive enzymes have significantly helped many people and I keep hearing about Digest Gold and Zygest. Is one better than the other? What does everyone take and can you describe if it worked? Thanks.

Hi Sportsfreak and welcome to our family-sorry that you also have GP. I have had GP for just over a year now and the digestive enzymes made all the difference for me as to how I digested my food which made me feel better. I use the brand Jarrow from the health food store and take 2-3 capsules before every meal. I highly recommend them and would talk to your doctor and/or dietician for advice as to what would be the best option for you. As far as how they work, what I have been told is that they help you digest your food since the food sits in our stomachs for so long, so it helps move the food quicker which should help decrease some of your symptoms hopefully (i.e. bloating). Best of luck-this is a great place to ask your questions and there are some very warm and friendly people on this site! Mphotographer
P.S. My GI told me that you can get perscription strength digestive enzymes if the "over-the-counter" ones don't work for you

mphotographer, thank you so much for your reply, description of digestive enzymes and what you take precisely. Thanks! :-)

Currently I am taking ginger capsules to somewhat control the nausea but I feel like I need something else that will actually work towards really helping what is precisely going on in the stomach/intestines as well. Though I have no clue where I'd be without ginger at the moment.

I am currently going through the deal of figuring out if mine is idiopathic or if there is a cause. So far, I know I don't have diabetes or thyroid problems. I can't wait to get finished with the ruling out/in causes and I can just solely focus on getting this under control. I think digestive enyzmes are a start towards just that. I have a strong feeling I will be doing this the alternative route just based on what others have said have helped them.

Is there anything else you take besides enzymes? Thanks again for the response.
