DIET and CIP

0 Recommendations

Hi all,
I have CIP and no colon. My small intestine is really sluggish and ive noticed that if i eat anything solid, i get backed up, and it takes me about a week or two to clean myself out. The pain is horrible now that i dont have a large intestine and all that food is stuck in my small.

Can you all give me some ideas on what you can eat and what you have to stay away from completely?

Thank u!!

I think it is best to stick to liquid/pureed things and/or very little solid food that is very easy to digest, NO fiber, no milk products (at least no milk from the cow, can't tolerate milk from the cow but I tolerate milk products from the sheep in very little amounts), no corn bread (white bread is better), very little fat and red meat.

It is most important to remember that fiber makes CIP worse and contributes to the dilation of the bowel loops.

If you can't manage your condition solely by diet this wouldn't be uncommon.
I have also had a nasal feeding tube for about 4 months but since it didn't work so well (didn't gain much weight and I am still markedly underweight) I am temporarily on parenteral nutrition.

What is about your weight?
You can also ask for a g-tube to decompress the stomach and subsequently the intestine backing up the stuff.

So you mustn't use laxatives that contains fiber (metamucil etc) or that produces much waste to move things along.
This kinf of laxatives mainly works in the colon and since you have no colon any more (like myself) it is useless to take them but dangerous.

do you know if you are fructose/lactose-intolerant?
Moreover since things move so slowly in your small bowel you can easily get bacterial overgrowth.
Have you had a test for this?
