Constant Stomach Pain

0 Recommendations

I do not have gastroparesis but i do have ibs and fibro. I've had constant stomach pain for years. Pain/Bloating whether i eat or not, but worse when eating. My Gastro doc says i have slow motility and pelvic floor dysfunction. I'm constipated all the time because it stays in my intestines too long? Also my muscles don't function correctly. I've had all the tests. I also have to burp every time i drink or eat something and alot of times i can't get them out. The same with passing gas. Does anyone get this??

Along with GP and other problems, I also have colonic inertia. I don't have BM's unless I take handfuls of OsmoPrep. I only do that about every 2 weeks because the pills are so huge and I feel worse right when I take them (probably from the GP).

Welcome to the group!

Have you tried any other the suggestions, like miralax, or changing your diet. I have ibs and I have to be very careful as to what I eat and to avoid the things that constipate me. Many things can slow down digestion. Certain foods, certain drugs (such as calcium) cheese etc. Have you tried prune juice? It helps me.

I take 2 capfulls of miralax each morning in coffee. If I don't, I'm in trouble. Sometimes I think it sounds crazy, but its what I do to make my body function. I also take colace (stool softeners) in the evening and drink lots of water.

I have a friend who squats (feet on the seat!) on her toilet... I'm not that coordinated, but a footstool helps.

Hey FlutterGirl!

Where is your pain? It sounds like a motility problem but perhaps not in the stomach... I as first diagnosed with GP but later was found that the true problem is slow motility in the small intestine and they told me I had pelvic floor dysfunction (did 2 weeks of heavy duty therapy...no fun) A lot of the same drugs Domperidoe and REglan are recommended for this...those didn't really help me. BUT everyone's case is so different.

I tried a more natural approach with acupuncture and herbs. Although it helped, I am now on Miralax for the constipation and it seems the most beneficial without too many terrible side effects long term or short term. The bloating issues have really been helped with a change of diet and eating smaller meals a few times during the day....and DRINKING LOTS of water plus my juicer is a God sent as it allows for fiber intake (the only kind i can have) while giving me some nutrients. You've got nothing to loose by trying these small steps before doing anything with too many side effects.

My main problem remains in my upper abdomen..I have excruciating pain all the time...currently in the hospital undergoing more test to see what's going on. It's been over a year of this type of problems and although trying everything the pain only gets worse. They found an obstruction but trying to find the cause. Best of luck to you!!

I have been dealing with this same thing for about a year and a half now. I have similar symptoms to yours and was hospitalized twice. It took a while for doctors to figure out what was wrong. I have been diagnosed with stomach motility. The nerves in my stomach dont contract they are dead. The food just sits and then eventually passes. I will be fine for a while then all of a sudden symptoms start again. I also have gerd and trouble swallowing. I had radiation in 1994 and they said the radiation could have deadin the stomach nerves. It could also be a MutilpleSystemAtrophy because I have been having low blood pressure as well. I am currently on an atibiotic call eurythromican. Good luck to you and I hope you get answers.

20 years of excruciating upper abdominal pain.
A motility problem.
They still dont know exactly whats wrong.
Dont know how Ive survived this long.

It sounds like you will benefit from being here and trying various things that have helped other people on this site. In my case I have been told that I have no motility in my intestines and therefore my system works only by gravity. I need to stick to a liquid diet. Other wise food gets stuck and nothing will leave my stomach for days. I find when I stick to liquids I don't experience the stomach pain. My problem and yours could be completely different but it is worth trying a liquid diet. Keep a food diary of everything you eat and drink and see if you can figure out what brings on the pain or makes it better or worse. That is how I was able to determine how to stop my misery.

I have the problems with BM's too... I have GP and IBS.
I take miralax daily 17grams(capful) every 6 hours but it doesnt help me too much along with Amitiza.
Did the liquid diets help with the BM's? I am going on average 3 weeks between one.

The only time I can go is if I take the whole 522mg of miralax along with the amitiza

Yes I find the liquid diet makes a huge difference with BMs. Because my system works with gravity, the weight of the liquid seems to help. But I still need miralax, dulcolax and flax seed oil caps. And sometimes a miracle too :) !
