MiraLax Surgery Constipation Colonic inertia Chiropractic Pelvic floor dysfunction Diabetes
Delila: hi, this is Laura. I had mine removed...what do you want to know? It's a rough surgery...and it takes time to recuperate, and you may wonder if you did the right thing at first, but I have to tell you, it changed my life....having my colon removed was one of the best things I ever did....there are no guarantees, but i don't know anyone who had theirs removed that did not find relief...some people wind up "going" alot after the surgery; some people start to "go" normally" and some people, (like me) do "GO" but still have to take something everyday like Miralax, but that's A-OK by me because before I had it removed, i couldn't go for anything...a month or more would go by without me moving my bowels, not matter WHAT or HOW much I took of ANYTHING.....It's an improvement i couldn't put a price tag on.
Let me know if there are specific questions you have.
Laura
Hi Delila,
I just wanted to wish you well. I hope everything goes really smooth and you are feeling better in no time.

Before removing your colon you may want to reseach NUCCA chiropractic. It could be that the nerves that are supplying your colon with function and being cutt off. I have IBS C and this treatment has helped a lot. You can find more info at www.nucca.org or www.erinelster.com
Hi, I had my colon removed in November of 2008, due to colonic inertia and it was the best move I have ever made. I was on 12 capfulls of Marilax per day. I don't have to wear a bag because the doctor hooked up my small intestine to my rectum. At first I was going about 7 or 8 times per day but with the use of Konsyl which is a bulk forming formula, I go 3 or 4 times a day. This stuff is so good that my whole family takes it now just to keep thier colon cleaned out. The surgery itself was quite a big surgery and it does take time to heal, I was in the hospital for 7 days but it was the best thing I ever did. Be sure to ask your doctor about taking Konsyl after your surgery, it cost about $14.00 at Wal-mart and it last about a month and a half, I take it twice a day with 100 % grape juice and I no longer need the Marilax. I also had pelvic floor dysfunction and even that has gotten better. I wish you the best of luck and I think you will be happy with the out come. Please keep us informed as to how you are doing. Lisa
For those of you who have had your colon removed, have you stuck to the low fiber/low residue diet? I had my total colectomy Sept 08 and am recovering quite nicely. I am interested in info about diet. I've been good about my eating, but sometimes wonder if others eat a wider variety of food than do I. I keep my fiber to under 10 grams per day, no greens, no seeds, no caffeine, not too many sweets, white bread, no whole grains....is that consistent with what others are doing? Thanks for any info. Linda
Hi Linda, well it's been a while hah? As you know I had my colon removed in Nov. 08 and I eat the same things I was eating before, my doctor told me that I don't have to change my diet and he was right. I know I wouldn't be able to eat all the normal foods if it wasn't for taken Konsyl each day. Best of luck to you. Lisa PS. I eat like any normal person does and then some, LOL!
So, you take the Konsyl so you can have bowel movements? I appreciate any info you can offer.
L
I just had mine removed on Oct 14. Here we are Nov. 6, and it's so much better. Just so you know, the reason for my procedire was problems due to colonic inertia and an extra 3.5 ft of colon. All of this was complicated by neurpathy related to diabetes. This resulted in severe constipation. Nothing worked, Laxatives, Amitiza, Enemas...nothing.
It's a pretty serious procedure to go through so I don't want to minimize it, but for those who have tried everything else, the procedure is a God send.
I would have liked to avoid surgery, but it just wasn't possible and my quality of life,; family, professional, etc......... was aweful.
If you've tried everything else, and your doctor recommends it, prayerfully consider have the procedure. Just weigh all your options
