Cold Hands and Feet!

0 Recommendations

You know it's odd regarding the cold hands and feet! Iam also like that! I have lost to date 53 pounds sinse my diagnosis with Gastroparesis! Iam wondering if it's from the weightloss, or the body being completely out of sync! I always joke about wearing 3 layers of clothing! I can sit in front of the fire and still be cold! Iam glad to know there are others out there that are similar to me! I guess Iam not the only oddball! Has any one ever got better from Gastroparesis?? My Dr thinks it's post viral! It's been really 2 years since I had The Norwalk Virus! It's only been sinse early Jan 2007 that I've really had day to day struggles! I was also post surgery when this all started! Thanks for any info! Mary

Mary,
You might want to check out "finallywell" 's posts and comments. She has been symptom free for a number of years now!
I noticed you mentioned your doctor thinks it is a viral connection...the doctor's at Mayo, who are doing research on it, also believe it is linked to a virus. They arent' sure which virus or exactly what the virus does to the system but suspect it is attacking the autonomic system.
I think it is interesting how many of us had surgery of some sort prior to the GP, but also many have had some type of a virus shortly before it too. I can see where the doctor's are stumped.
I personally had gallbladder surgery and around the same time had mono and a parvo virus.
It does seem strange to being telling someone that you are glad that they have the same symptoms, but anyone who has been through GP or motility issues along with the other things most of us are dealing with, completely understand that statement. You aren't glad someone else is sick but it's nice to know someone else understands and you are some odd duck out there in the world.
Well, gotta go.

Yes I got well. I began suffering from Gastroparesis after surgery to repair a hiatal hernia which caused severe GERD. I am wondering now if perhaps we all got some sort of virus while in the hospital having surgery. I began a medication that controlled my Gastroparesis in 1995. I took the meds before every meal until I became pregnant in 1997. I know I needed the meds until that time because if I ever missed a dose I was sick. For whatever reason when I stopped taking the meds during my pregnancy I realized I didn't need them anymore. My first daughter was born in 1998 and since that time I have had no symptoms. I don't really know how I got well. My family doc believes that perhaps something in my hormones kick started things. Reguardless there is hope because I am well.

hi, i need to put like 3 pairs of sock in my country (Puerto Rico, is hot right now) just to go to the mall or places with air condition, cause i feel my feet very cold and it cause me pain in the knees and feet, but if i go to a hot place i feel my head too hot and i get desesperate, dizzy, without energy, nauseas, near sincope....i cant understand now, but i hope that i will soon, then i will tell to you if i think that it could help you. I have gastroparesis too so keep in contact.

Boy, is this an interesting discussion! I too get very cold-if I go swimming (have started back again as I am feeling better), I get so cold in the pool, wishing I had a wetsuit on! After I swim, I sit in the steam room for 20 minutes or so just to warm up. Prior to having GP, I could only be in the steam room for about 5 minutes before over heating. It is nice to know I am not the only one who gets cold easily. I relate to you too cha, about getting cold in air conditioning!!

Judy, you made a very interesting post concerning the research being done at Mayo-I am amazed at how many of us "gpers"(my new term for our group :-)) have had surgeries and then a virus. I had my liver/gallbladder surgery and 7 months later got a bad case of the flu and food poisioning and that's when all my GI issues started. Maybe the Mayo Clinic is getting closer to better treatments/preventions for us. I too see why the doctors are stumped and I am going to share this info. with all of my doctors to help educate them.

Yahoo to "finallywell"!! You give the rest of us gpers hope for the future. Hugs and warm thoughts to everyone-mphotographer
P.S. For those of you that write a long post and then can't send it, I have a solution: Copy your note before you send it. That way, if you aren't able to send it now, you can send it later!
