Can I Vent? (problems from diet change)

0 Recommendations

Hi everybody,

I'm really frustrated right now. I was diagnosed in May with GP. Thankfully, I've been able to change my diet and I'm feeling better. The problem is I'm now eating less complex carbs and more simple carbs. I've had a problem with PMS for years, well this diet change has made it much worse than it has been. I got my period and I still feel like I could rip someones head off. Then feeling that way makes me clench my jaw and irritates my TMJ. I feel like I'm on a bad carnival ride.
I'm trying to add more low fat protien and less refined sugars. I'm trying to cut back on the simple carbs too. I was drinking more friut juice in order to get more vitamins in.
I also usually avoid caffiene for the same reason but I've been having some (green tea) because I'm so tired due to poor sleep at night.
I'm also trying some whole grains foods (a little at a time) to see if I can digest some of them. I'm thinking of keeping a list of foods I can eat.
I'm tired of feeling like my life revolves around food all the time. A change in one area effects other things!
Thanks, I know you folks know what I mean and understand. Regi

Regi - I know it's so hard with all the carbs / sugar. I never connected it with the diet, but my PMS has also gotten worse! Eureka! Now I know why!

I think it's a great idea to make a list of the foods you can eat. I have done that. Once when I was very frustrated with the diet, my sister took me to the grocery store with a mission. We went down every aisle and read labels to find other things I could eat. I found Special K (made from rice), and Special K bars. Can't remember what else I found, but they didn't taste too good so I never got them again. I have been eating a lot of low fat cheese lately (mozzarella and american), and homemade soups with low fat broth.

Can you increase your exercising? I know that I need to. It should help with the PMS and fatigue if you have it.

Feel better soon!

Hi gpgirl,

That's what I love about this forum, you can learn so much and help others(even if that wasn't what I was thinking! :)
You're right I need to get back to exercising more. I've been slacking off lately.
I was thinking of low fat cheese and maybe good quality lunch meat too!
Thankfully I do look at food shopping like an adventure to find new things I can eat. We have some really good stores near us.
Yeah, I think a list of what I can eat along with my daily log will help.
I felt so much better just writing this and getting it off my chest! Love this forum.
I don't know if it is the same thing but I tried the Special K protien bars and I liked it. I could also digest the fiber in it.

You take care too, Regi

You can actually enter clinical depression right before your period. There's a name for it somewhere. I don't think whole grains are ever going to go down. Dandelion tea is supposed to provide energy without caffeine. I can drink limited caffeine, but it definitely messes with my energy level when I am using it for energy--ups and downs with my moods, too.
I also clench my jaw habitually. I am using an estrogen patch to relieve some of the symptoms.
Sometimes, though, I just have to require less of myself. It's not something I do well.

I am a very big believer in anti-depressants especially if you are peri-menapausal. Too many stories to tell, but many women's minds are not right during this time and they often don't know it! My husband very much prefers me on Zoloft!! DF

Doesn't everyone get cranky when we can't have all our favorite foods? And even the so called healthy ones bring misery! Before this disease happened to me I could feel such a change in how I felt (physically and mentally) whenever I changed my diet. So it is no wonder that with the weird combination of allowable foods that now make up our diets that we would feel out of sorts. And then add the misery of PMS to the fix and watch out. As someone once said cross PMS with a GPS and you get a crazy bitch that is going to find you!

Hi,

I forgot to mention I'm already on Prozac. I believe in these too. I've seen them improve so many peoples lives.
I guess I should try to be more patient during the tougher times. It's just hard sometimes.
Take care all, Regi
